Hydrophilic vehicle-based dual controlled release matrix system

A hydrophilic vehicle-based dual controlled-release matrix system, suitable for encapsulation in hard or soft capsules, has been developed. The matrix is in the form of a solution or a suspension, which allows for easier formulation of low dose compounds. The matrix includes two rate controlling barriers for the controlled release of one or more pharmaceutically active agents. The primary rate controlling barrier includes a hydrophilic vehicle. The primary rate controlling barrier can further comprise one or more solvents which are miscible with the hydrophilic vehicle. The secondary rate controlling barrier includes a hydrogel-forming polymeric material dissolved or dispersed in the hydrophilic vehicle. The presence of the hydrogel-forming polymeric material makes extraction of the drug from the dosage form more difficult. This feature could be beneficial in preventing or minimizing the misuse of dosage forms which contain drugs which are prone to abuse.

Misuse preventative, controlled release formulation

Disclosed is a misuse preventative, controlled release composition in the form of a multilayered oral dosage form. A first layer contains a plurality of controlled release microparticles having a pharmaceutically active agent (for example, an opioid analgesic) disposed therein. The second layer, which can be adjacent the first layer comprises a pharmaceutically active agent that can be the same or different from the pharmaceutically active agent in the microparticles in the first layer. The composition further comprises a superabsorbent material (for example, polycarbophil) disposed within the first layer, the second layer, or both the first layer and the second layer. When intact, the pharmaceutically active agent is released from the second layer faster than the pharmaceutically active agent in the first layer. When crushed, either intentionally or accidentally, and exposed to an aqueous medium, the superabsorbent material present swells to encapsulate the microparticles, which remain substantially intact thereby retarding the release of the pharmaceutically active agent from the composition. Also disclosed is a method of using the misuse preventative, controlled release composition to deliver at least one pharmaceutically active agent to a mammal, for example, a human, in need thereof.

Silicon continuous casting method

The present invention reduces temperature gradient in the direction of the radius of solidified ingots of silicon immediately after solidification, which has serious influences on the quality as a solar cell and improves the quality. Silicon raw materials are melted inside a bottomless crucible combined with an induction coil by electromagnetic induction heating. The silicon melt formed inside the bottomless crucible is allowed to descend and solidified ingots of silicon are manufactured continuously. Plasma heating by a transferred plasma arc torch is also used for melting the silicon raw materials. The plasma arc torch is moved for scanning along the inner surface of the bottomless crucible in the horizontal direction. A plasma electrode on the solidified ingot side to generate transferred plasma arc is allowed to contact the surface of the solidified ingot at positions where the temperature of the solidified ingot becomes 500 to 900° C.

Microprocessor resistant to power analysis

A secure microprocessor is designed using quad-coded logic which is similar to dual-rail encoded asynchronous logic except that the ‘11’ state propagates an alarm. The alarm signal obliterates secure data in its path. Quad-coded logic provides resilience to power glitches and single-transistor or single-wire failures. The already low data dependency of the power consumption makes power analysis attacks difficult, and they are made even more difficult by inserting random delays in data and control paths, and by a set-random-carry instruction which enables software to make a non-deterministic choice between equivalent instruction sequences. These features are particularly easy to implement well in quad-coded logic.
