354 results about "Tobacco smoke" patented technology

Cigarette smoke is an aerosol produced by the incomplete combustion of tobacco during the smoking of cigarettes. Temperatures in burning cigarettes range from about 400 ℃ between puffs to about 900 ℃ during a puff. During the burning of the cigarette tobacco (itself a complex mixture), thousands of chemical substances are generated by combustion, distillation, pyrolysis and pyrosynthesis. Tobacco smoke is used as a fumigant and inhalant.

Smokable rod for a cigarette

InactiveUS20050066986A1Not easily dislodgedNot overly flakeyTobacco preparationCigar manufactureEngineeringTobacco smoke
A smokable rod for a smoking article, such as a cigarette, possesses a co-axial or concentric construction. A longitudinally extending inner core of tobacco cut filler is positioned within a smokable rod. The outer material that circumscribes the inner core in an annular fashion is composed of a tobacco material treated with an optional burn suppressing agent, and the outer material acts as a substrate for an aerosol forming material. A preferred aerosol forming material is glycerin. An outer paper wrapper circumscribes the length of the smokable rod, and another paper wrapping material also can circumscribe the inner core material. In use, one end of the smokable rod is lit. When the opposite end of the smokable rod is drawn upon, an aerosol composed of tobacco smoke, thermal decomposition products of tobacco, and volatilized aerosol forming material, is provided. Alternatively, a smokable rod can be provided by positioning the tobacco cut filler in the outer annular region, and by constructing the inner core portion using the tobacco material treated with aerosol forming material and an optional burn suppressing agent. Alternatively, a smokable rod possesses a single blend of smokable materials; at least a portion the smokable material being a tobacco material carrying a relatively high amount of aerosol forming material; and optionally at least a portion of the smokable material being in intimate contact with a burn suppressing agent. A filtered cigarette can be produced by attaching a filter element to one end of any of those smokable rods.

Method of and apparatus in a filter tipping machine for manipulating a web

A running web of tipping paper (one side of which is coated with a film of adhesive) in a filter cigarette making machine is subdivided into discrete uniting bands and / or is perforated by resorting to a single source or to two discrete sources of coherent radiation. Each source is associated with a control unit which initiates the emission of short-lasting flashes of coherent radiation. Such radiation is caused to impinge upon a diffractive focusing lens which focuses coherent radiation upon one or more masks having openings for coherent radiation which is to sever the web along transversely extending linear zones and / or to provide the web with desired arrays of perforations. The perforations permit atmospheric air to enter the column of tobacco smoke in a filter cigarette wherein the tobacco-containing portion and the filter mouthpiece are united by a perforated adhesive-coated uniting band.

Cigarette filter with beaded carbon

ActiveUS20060180164A1Efficiently and effectively adsorbingAvoid excessive impactTobacco treatmentCigar manufactureGas phaseEngineering
A smoking article such as a cigarette comprises a tobacco rod and a filter component having a cavity filled with spherical beaded carbon. As mainstream tobacco smoke is drawn through the filter component, targeted gas phase smoke constituents are removed as the smoke passes through the carbon. During the filter manufacturing process the spherical beaded carbon flows like a liquid and substantially completely fills the cavity. Point-to-point contact between the spherical beads together with substantially complete filling of the cavity produces minimal channeling of ambulatory gas phase as well as maximum contact between the gas phase and the carbon surface of the spherical beads during smoking.

Electronic human breath filtration device

A battery powered portable human body carrying electronic human breath filtration device is an electronic nose mask and is the most ideal alternative to conventional filter paper type nose mask. It utilizes electronic ionization technique and electrostatic field to remove air borne particles, dust, pollens, contaminants, bacteria, viruses, toxic chemical, fume and tobacco smoke from human inhalation and exhalation breath. It interacts with human breathing action as the air flow driving system to move the inhalation and exhalation breaths through the electronic filter elements, in addition to a front louver cover and a rear louver cover's protection as pre-filters. The system requires very low running current and uses small batteries usually found in household electronics. This filtration system is light weight with negligible air flow resistance and is integrated into the nose mask which is connected to a pocket size control system via a connection cable.

A novel and improved method of applying adhesive to one side of a running web of wrapping material for a rod-like filler of filter material for tobacco smoke includes directing toward the one side of the web a stream of adhesive which issues from an open-and-shut orifice of a nozzle, and employing one or more jets of compressed air to vary the direction of flow of the stream so that the adhesive coats one marginal portion as well as the adjacent portion of the major central part of the one side and forms at least one non-linear layer. Once the thus treated web is draped around the filler, the adhesive bonds the two marginal portions of the converted web to each other and simultaneously bonds the central part of the web to the filler.

Method for controlling, reducing, and quitting smoking

This invention is an improved method for controlling, reducing, and quitting smoking. Specifically, this method requires the use of one or more non-combustible devices that employ (at least) (A) a loading chamber for measuring the amount of combustible material to be smoked; and (B) a baffle or similar apparatus to prevent the smoker from inhaling the tobacco. By using one such non-combustible device, the smoker can measure the precise amount of tobacco to be smoked. Hence, the smoker can reduce his or her dependency on smoking by limiting the amount of tobacco smoked, as well as how many times he or she smokes that amount each day. By using two or more non-combustible devices with varying loading chamber lengths, the smoker can reduce his or her dependency by gradually reducing the amount of tobacco smoked, in addition to how many times he or she smokes a day.
