Methods for the application of a polymer-free coating onto a medical device using plasma electrolytic deposition, comprising: (i) optionally applying a metal precoating onto a medical device; (ii) placing the medical device in an electrolyte solution comprising an electrolyte; and (iii) establishing an electric potential under plasma electrolytic deposition conditions between an electrode and the medical device, such that the plasma electrolytic deposition conditions are adequate to sustain deposition from the electrolyte solution onto the surface of the medical device to form the coating. The invention also relates to coating compositions and coated medical devices, such as stents, made according to these methods. If desired, the polymer-free coating can be a drug-eluting coating.

Method for producing lactic acid

A method for producing lactic acid, comprising producing lactic acid from a sugar-containing fermentation liquid in a fermentor by means of lactic acid-forming bacteria to result in a lactate salt, typically ammonium, sodium or potassium lactate, and isolating lactic acid by subjecting the fermented fermentation liquid to a first ultrafiltration step to result in a substantially polymer-free permeate comprising at least one lactate salt, acidifying the permeate to a pH value of below about 3.9, performing at least one additional isolation step in which the acidified permeate is subjected to nanofiltration and / or reverse osmosis, and preferably subjecting the resulting product to electrodialysis using bipolar electrodialysis membranes. Fermentation is preferably performed using whey protein as a nutrient substrate and by adding at least one protein-hydrolysing enzyme directly to the fermentor during the fermentation process so that hydrolysis of protein to amino acids takes place simultaneously with the fermentation of sugar into organic acid.

A substituted cyano-distyrene compound is generated by using a substituent-containing para benzaldehyde derivative and hydroxybenzyl cyanide through Knoevenagel reaction, so that, on one hand, the substituted cyano-distyrene compound can react with polymerizable double bond-containing acids such as saturated dihalide, methacrylic acid or acrylic acid in sequence to generate a polymerizable monomer and a side-chain liquid crystal polymer with a flexible spacer is obtained through free radical polymerization; and on the other hand, the substituted cyano-distyrene compound can directly react with polymerizable double bond-containing acyl chloride such as methacryloyl chloride or acryloyl chloride to generate the polymerizable monomer and a side-chain liquid crystal polymer free of the flexible spacer is obtained through free radical polymerization. A fluorescent chromogenic group and a liquid crystal unit are combined into one; the method is simple in synthesis and easy to purify, and the obtained polymer has an obvious aggregation-induced emission effect, has excellent liquid crystal property and has a good application prospect.

Method and apparatus for treating well flow-back and produced water or other wastewater

A polymer-free method and self-draining self-cleaning apparatus for treatment of water with high total dissolved solids including optional pretreatment, precipitation / flocculation, and separation. The pH is raised by addition of caustic soda and / or soda ash. In a vertical clarifier silo, the feed is gently mixed to cause dissolved solids to precipitate and agglomerate to form suspended flocculates. The clarifier includes an internal mixer surrounded by a cylindrical tube diffuser. Rotation of the mixer provides gentle dual circulation patterns within the clarifier that allow for flocculates of a predetermined size to settle from suspension. The clarifier may also include one or more vertical recirculation lines to recirculate some of the heavier flocculates at the bottom of the vessel into the mixer chamber to enhance precipitation via the seeding effect. The suspended flocculates are stripped from the feed water in a centrifugal separator. The clarifier silo may be trailer mounted for rapid deployment.

The invention discloses a fluorine-containing polymer and a preparation method thereof. One or more fluorinated monomers is / are subjected to liquid polymerization by using polyfluothane oxy ether acid as an emulsifier to obtain the fluorine-containing polymer free of perfluoro-octanoic acid or perfluoro-octylsulfonic acid, wherein the polyfluothane oxy ether acid is a halogen-terminated or hydrogen-terminated polyfluothane oxy ether acid emulsifier. The technical scheme mainly relates to the following three improvements: (1) the polyfluothane oxy ether acid or salt thereof selected instead of PFOA / PFOS as the fluorine-containing emulsifier can be effectively used in aqueous emulsion polymerization reaction of fluorinated monomers; (2) the prepared fluorine-containing polymer is free of perfluoro-octanoic acid or perfluoro-octylsulfonic acid, and thus, satisfies the environmental requirement; and (3) the fluorine-containing polymer conforms to the cost accounting, can greatly enhance the single-kettle yield of the equipment on the premise of not increasing the production equipment and personnel, and meanwhile, can enhance the polymerization time, polymerization yield and other production indexes.

A multilayer composite has a generally adhesion resistant, protective layer and an adjacent second polymeric film. The composition of the protective layer includes a fluoropolymer and the second polymeric film is a polymer free of fluoropolymer.
