1053 results about "Optical medium" patented technology

An optical medium is material through which electromagnetic waves propagate. It is a form of transmission medium. The permittivity and permeability of the medium define how electromagnetic waves propagate in it. The medium has an intrinsic impedance, given by η=Ex/Hy where Eₓ and Hy are the electric field and magnetic field, respectively. In a region with no electrical conductivity, the expression simplifies to: η=√(μ/ɛ) .

Optical communication device provided with a reflector and method for forming a reflector in an optical communication device

An optical communication device of the invention includes a reflector for reflecting the light that has reached one end surface of a waveguide chip to turn the optical path of the light. The reflector includes a transparent thin film layer formed on one end surface of the waveguide chip by using a material to which a metal that forms an intermetallic compound or the like with Au is added to a substance that is transparent to the light that propagates through the waveguide, as well as an Au thin film layer formed on the front surface of the transparent thin film layer. This allows formation of a reflector having an Au thin film layer as a reflecting surface in an optical medium with high adhesion strength. Thus, an optical communication device can be provided having a high reliability with little loss.

Multi-dimensional images system for digital image input and output

A two-dimensional image is displayed and a grey level image is drawn on said two-dimensional image defining a depth map. A stereo image pair is generated based on the depth map and an anaglyph image of the stereo image pair is displayed. Edits of the depth map are displayed by anaglyph image. A plurality of projection frames are generated based on the depth map, and interlaced and printed for viewing through a micro optical media. Optionally, a layered image is extracted from the two-dimensional image and the plurality of projection frames have an alignment correction shift to center the apparent position of the image. A measured depth map is optionally input, and a stereo pair is optionally input, with a depth map calculated based on the pair. The user selectively modifies the calculated and measured depth map, and the extracted layers, using painted grey levels. A ray trace optionally modifies the interlacing for optimization to a particular media.

Optical recording medium and method of managing defect area of the optical recording medium

A rewritable optical medium and a method of managing its defect area is disclosed. The DMA condition or initially assignable spare area size in the present invention is determined based upon the interrelation between the spare area size and the DMA condition. Namely, the PDL entry condition among the DMA condition is determined to allow a minimum spare area for linear replacement in the initially assignable spare area after slipping replacement during formatting to facilitate management of the defect area of a rewritable optical medium. The present invention also discloses a method of controlling the recording / playback of optical media with the same format and different sizes, thereby improving the system performance.

Method and apparatus for controlling access to storage media

A method and apparatus for controlling access to a storage medium, such as an optically readable medium. Light sensitive or other materials that are adapted to change state and affect reading of a storage medium are used to control access to data that may be stored on optical medium and / or to control use of the medium.

Deterring theft of optical media

An optical media disk is treated with a light-sensitive material that impedes the ability of a optical media player from reading data stored on the disk. This light-sensitive material is a material changes phase upon exposure to one or more wavelengths of light. During the initial phase, the light-sensitive material will render the disk unreadable. After activation, however, the disk becomes readable by conventional optical media players. In this fashion, theft of yet-to-be-activated optical media is deterred.

Directory read inhibitor for optical storage media

Systems and methods are described for inhibiting the readability of an optical media due to changes in a pseudo-reflective material that composes the optical media after the optical media has been exposed to air for a predetermined time. An optical media includes a data encoded component. At least a fraction of the data encoded component transforms from a substantially optically reflective state to a substantially optically non-reflective state as at-least-in-part a function of time from an initializing event. The systems and methods provide advantages because of low cost, limited content lifetime, avoidance of rental returns and minimum changes to existing manufacturing processes.
