1347 results about "Readability" patented technology

Readability is the ease with which a reader can understand a written text. Readability is more than simply legibility—which is a measure of how easily a reader can distinguish individual letters or characters from each other.

Method and system for e-mail chain group discussions

A system and method for reformatting chain forwarded and chain replied electronic messages into thread-of-discussion messages for improved readability and reader comprehension. The chained electronic messages are parsed into discussion entries which are then sorted by a preferred order, such as last-to-first by date of creation. Extraneous fields and data which are not part of the substantive discussion are removed from the discussion entries. Long or full electronic mail addresses are replaced by abbreviations or preferred nicknames which may be found in an address book. Finally, the sorted discussion entries with source abbreviations or preferred nicknames are combined and output as a thread-of-discussion format message.

Thermostat with adjustable color for aesthetics and readability

The thermostat includes a housing having at least a portion thereof illuminated by a light that changes color via a manual input. The light illuminates the display for easy readability while the variable color of the light allows a user to match the appearance of the thermostat to best complement the surrounding décor. User input elements provide for the manual adjustment of one or more characteristics of the light, such as visible color of the light. The light source comprises at least one LED for displaying a plurality of colors. In this case, to change the color of the light illuminating the translucent portion of the housing or backlighting the display, electronics within the thermostat control the drive signals to the LED in order to operate the LED to provide the desired color. The invention also contemplates filtering the light and manually adjusting the filtering to provide the desired aesthetics.

RFID tag with enhanced readability

A radio frequency identification (RFID) device includes a conductive antenna structure having an elongated slot therein. Parts of the antenna structure on both sides of one end of the elongated slot are coupled to a wireless communication device, such as an RFID chip or interposer. On the opposite end of the elongated slot, parts of the antenna structure at both sides of the elongated slot are electrically coupled together, for instance by being coupled together by other conductive parts of the antenna structure. All of the parts of the antenna structure may be parts of a continuous unitary layer of conductive material. The antenna structure with the elongated slot therein may facilitate increased readability of the RFID device, particularly in directions out from the edges of the RFID device.

System and method for incorporating semantic characteristics into the format-driven syntactic document transcoding framework

Initially, a client requests a specific document and provides the preferences, including readability level preferences of the document, locale preferences, content filtering instructions preferences, governmental regulations preferences, natural language preferences, and document syntactic format preferences. The transcoding proxy requests and receives the document from the origin server, with the document having origin semantic characteristics. The document from the origin server has an origin readability level and origin locale, is conformant with origin content filtering instructions and origin governmental regulations, and is in origin natural language and in origin document syntactic format. Using the client semantics preferences, the transcoding proxy revises the document in a sequential or parallel fashion. The origin semantics characteristics of the document are, thus, revised to the semantic preferences specified by the client.

Automated browsing system for publishers and users on networks serving internet and remote devices

A method of sequencing and scheduling web resources, via a software application that collects URLs and feeds them to a Web browser, so that the amount of clicks and decisions are reduced when browsing the Internet. The method begins after a computer user with Net-access encounters a URL that leads to a collection of other URLs that the software application has arranged to be presented in a continuous, show manner. This collection of resources then plays automatically, going from one resource to the next without the user being required to make a decision or click. The decision-making process is not inhibited, it is made optional. A method of inserting full-screen advertising, public service announcements, news, etc. has been developed. The server software application module described herein allows a publisher to stream URLs to a user who does not have the client-side software. The publishing module allows a user to format resources to a particularly desirable size and characteristic that promotes readability during a show viewing session. This same module can publish collections of nodes for others to view as a whole sequence, accessible via e-mail, screen saver or as a web resource.

Smart messenger

A method and apparatus improve the synchronization and presentation of an exchange of messages between two or more users during an on-line Internet messaging session. This method and apparatus discriminate which messages from a sender correspond to replies from a recipient and presents these messages in an orderly, time-sequenced fashion using color schemes or separate presentation windows which improves the overall readability and efficiency of the communication. Additionally, the method and apparatus provide a level of identity security. As a user enters messages, the typing style, speech patterns, or biometrics of all the users are monitored and will issue warnings whenever a change is detected, possibly indicating someone other then the original user is now sending messages. Alternatively, or in addition, a user may be asked a series of random questions and another user will evaluate answers provided to those questions to determine whether a user's identity is false.

Method for displaying multi-level text data in three-dimensional map

A three-dimensional map is displayed on a screen, and text data with different levels of density are displayed according to distances from a view point of the displayed three-dimensional map to nodes where the text data will be displayed, thereby improving readability of the text data. Further, it is possible to display the text data by locally adjusting the density of the text data on the screen. The three-dimensional map is displayed on the screen of a display panel by converting map data with two-dimensional coordinates into those with three-dimensional coordinates by means of a perspective projection method. Text data to be displayed together with the three-dimensional map are converted into those in a three-dimensional coordinate system with an origin defined by the view point of the three-dimensional map. The converted text data are projected on a two-dimensional plane to be converted into those with screen coordinates. Then, distances from the view point of the displayed three-dimensional map to the nodes where the text data will be displayed are classified. The classified distances are determined for the converted text data with the screen coordinates. Text data of levels corresponding to the determined distances are displayed on the screen of the display panel on which the three-dimensional map is displayed.

System, plug-in, and method for improving text composition by modifying character prominence according to assigned character information measures

A computer implemented system, plug-in application and method for composing a formatted text input to improve legibility, readability and / or print economy while preserving the format of the text input and satisfying any user selected aesthetic constraints. This is accomplished by reading in blocks of text input having defined characters including letters and punctuation in a given input format. A language unit such as a lexical or sub-lexical unit, a subset of punctuation or another defined unit for a particular language is examined and an information measure (IM) is assigned to each character in the language unit indicating the predictability of that character to differentiate the language unit from other language units. Typically, multiple different IMs are assigned to each character and combined to form a combined IM (CIM). The process is repeated for at least a plurality of language units and typically until all the text input in the block has been analyzed and information measures assigned to all of the characters. An adjustment to a physical feature is determined for each character in the plurality of units to modify the visual prominence of that character according to the values of the assigned information measures and a permitted range of physical variation for the block. The adjustments are applied to each character to compose the text input consistent with the input format.

Method of enhancing the readability of rapidly displayed text

A method of enhancing the readability of rapidly displayed text and with rapid apprehension, at a rate which is greater than the maximum unaided reading capability of that subject using the method. The method comprises a rapid and sequential moving of the words of text through a window on a screen of a computer monitor. In accordance with the method, the words are allowed to pass through or be displayed in the display window, one word at a time, and at a rate in which the time for display which is based on the number of characters in a word is related to and a function of the total amount of time required for all of the words in a segment of the text to be displayed. A time for display of each word of average character length is the same, and that certain words in a segment will be displayed for a longer period of time than other of the words. Usually, the words which contain more characters will have a longer display period. The present invention also provides an area on the screen of the monitor in which the previously read words of the segment of the text are printed as a full display, such that the reader may rapidly review the words of that segment previously presented on the window of the monitor, and then also rapidly scan entire portions of the text which have already been displayed. The method also involves the use of a selected color and patterned background, to enhance readability. In accordance with this method, the reading rate is substantially increased, and eye fatigue and strain is substantially reduced.
