Techniques for automatically providing a high-resolution rendering of a low resolution digital image in a distributed network

In one embodiment, a method of providing a recipient of a low-resolution digital image a way to automatically obtain a high-resolution rendering of the digital image is disclosed. In one embodiment, in a distributed system having a first node coupled to a second node, a method of outputting at the first node a composited digital image at a selected resolution is disclosed. At the second node, the composited digital image at a first resolution is generated and the composited digital image is then converted to a second resolution. The converted composited digital image is then transferred to the first node where the selected resolution is determined. If the selected resolution is the first resolution then the composited digital image is fetched and the composited digital image is then output at the first resolution. If, however, it is determined that the selected resolution is the second resolution, then the composited digital image is output at the at the second resolution.

Electroded Sheet for a Multitude of Products

eSheets create a multitude of different products. One embodiment is a projected capacitive touch sensor created by embedding orthogonal arrays of coated metal wires into the surface of a polymer sheet or onto the back of a projector screen. To increase the capacitance of the electrodes or pixels in the sensor, transparent conductive electrodes can be electrically connected to the wire electrodes. Another embodiment is a reflective, energy-efficient display formed by sandwiching a reflective cholesteric liquid crystal (Ch. LC) material between electroded sheet substrates. The eSheet Ch. LCD is pressure sensitive and can be written on using a finger or stylus. The eSheet Ch. LCD can then be read using the wire electrodes in the eSheet LCD.

Mobile terminal unit, display method, display program, and recording medium

A flexible LCD (2) is a flexible display. The flexible LCD (2) is pulled out from an upper cabinet to change a display area of the flexible LCD (2). An amount-of-sliding detecting section (4) measures the pullout amount (amount of sliding) of the flexible LCD (2) when the flexible LCD (2) is pulled out from a mobile terminal unit (1) or is retracted into the mobile terminal unit (1). A display controller (3) causes the flexible LCD (2) to display in a manner responsive to the amount of sliding that is measured by the amount-of-sliding detecting section (4). The foregoing makes it possible to utilize effectively the display having a display area that is revealed when the display is pulled out.

A system, method, and computer program product are provided for efficiently fetching and displaying large datasets on mobile devices, such as devices running the iPhone™ operating system. The method fetches data for a mobile device from a server and displays a plurality of data rows in a ListView within a user interface on the mobile device. The method stores primary keys on the mobile device until their corresponding data rows are to be displayed. The method reacts to user inputs such as scrolling actions and touch screen gestures to efficiently fetch and display list view subsets of large datasets. The method facilitates quick response times when navigating through large lists of data on a mobile device by: fetching displayable or visible rows of data in a data list view, preloading the visible rows on the mobile device; and binding the visible rows to user interface elements on the mobile device.

Polarization recovery in a directional display device

Disclosed is an imaging directional backlight polarization recovery apparatus including an imaging directional backlight with at least a polarization sensitive reflection component with optional polarization transformation and redirection elements. Viewing windows may be formed through imaging individual light sources and hence defines the relative positions of system elements and ray paths. The base imaging directional backlight systems provide substantially unpolarized light primarily for the illumination of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) resulting in at least 50% loss in light output when using a conventional sheet polarizer as input to the display. The invention herein introduces a polarization sensitive reflecting element to separate desired and undesired polarization states for the purposes of transformation and redirection of the reflected light for usable illumination. Polarization transformation and redirection can be provided by additional components such as retarder films and specular mirror surfaces.

Dynamic image presentation

One or more techniques and / or systems are disclosed for efficiently organizing images in a display. A size of an image is scaled by an image scale factor, while an aspect ratio for the image is maintained, where the image scale factor comprises a combination of a first scale distance and a second scale distance. The scaled image is filled into a first display line, if the size of the scaled image is not greater than an amount of display space remaining in the first display line; otherwise the scaled image is filled into a second display line. The image is expanded to mitigate white space in the display after the scaling, while maintaining the image's aspect ratio. This can be performed for a collection of images presented on a display to provide an enhanced user experience.

Method of navigating a collection of interconnected nodes

A method and apparatus for organizing and processing interconnected pieces of information (“nodes”) using a digital computer is disclosed. Each node has elements that may be text, images, audio, video, and other computer programs. A graph-based user interface presents the individual nodes in spatial arrangements that reflect the relationships among the nodes. User interaction indicating interest in a particular node results in an increase in the “activation” of that node. This leads to an increase in the size of the presentation of that node, as well as an increase in the size of the presentation of closely related nodes. The result is a unique user interaction paradigm that allows for intuitive traversal of complex collections of nodes.

Load balancing in a system with multi-graphics processors and multi-display systems

In typical embodiments a three GPU configuration is provided comprising three discrete video cards, each connected to a standard monitor placed horizontally for a 3× horizontal resolution. In this configuration, depending on the load on each GPU, the vertical split lines are dynamically adjusted. To adjust the load balancing according to these virtual split lines, the rendering clip rectangle of each GPU is adjusted, in order to reduce the number of pixels rendered by the heavily loaded GPU. These split lines define the boundary of the scene to be rendered by each GPU, and, according to some embodiments, may be moved horizontally. Thus for example if a GPU has a more complex rendering clip polygon to render than the other GPUs, the neighboring GPUs may render the rendering clip polygon it displays plus a portion of the rendering clip polygon to be displayed by heavily loaded GPU. The assisting GPUs transmit to the heavily loaded GPU the portion of the rendering clip polygon to be displayed by GPU via the chipset with a peer-to-peer protocol or through a communication bus. The split line is dynamically adjusted after each scene.

Micro Display Panels With Integrated Micro-Reflectors

A display panel with integrated micro-reflectors. The display panel also includes an array of pixel light sources (e.g., micro-LEDs) electrically coupled to corresponding pixel driver circuits (e.g., FETs). The micro-LEDs produce light and the micro-reflectors reduce the divergence of the light produced by the micro-LEDs. Different designs are possible. The micro-reflectors can have different shapes, include the shape of their sidewalls and the shape of their plan cross-section. The array schemes can also vary, including the number of LEDs per micro-reflector. Different fabrication approaches are also possible. In one approach, a support structure is integrated between micro-LEDs. The sides of the support structure are reflective and serve as the reflective sidewalls of the micro-reflector. Alternately, the LED mesa itself can serve as the support structure.
