Method and Apparatus to Compensate for Melanin and Hemoglobin Variation in Determination of a Measure of a Glycation End-Product or Disease State Using Tissue Fluorescence

A method of determining a measure of a tissue state (e.g., glycation end-product or disease state) in an individual is disclosed. A portion of the skin of the individual is illuminated with excitation light, then light emitted by the tissue due to fluorescence of a chemical with the tissue responsive to the excitation light is detected. The detected light can be combined with a model relating fluorescence with a measure of tissue state to determine a tissue state. The invention can illuminate the skin and detect responsive light over a time that spans a plurality of cardiac cycles of the individual, which can, as an example, help mitigate the effects of time-varying signals such as those due to hemoglobin. The invention can also determine the amount of light to be directed to the skin, for example by controlling the time that a light source is energized. The amount of illumination light can be determined from a skin reflectance characteristic such as pigmentation or melanin in the skin. Controlling the amount of light directed to the tissue can reduce the dynamic range required of a corresponding optical system, for example by allowing a single system to accurately measure individuals with very light skin and individuals with very dark skin.

This invention relates to retrieval for multimedia content, and provides a program endpoint time detection apparatus for detecting an endpoint time of a program by performing processing on audio signals of said program, comprising an audio classification unit for classifying said audio signals into a speech signal portion and a non-speech signal portion; a keyword retrieval unit for retrieving, as a candidate endpoint keyword, an endpoint keyword indicating start or end of the program from said speech signal portion; a content analysis unit for performing content analysis on context of the candidate endpoint keyword retrieved by the keyword retrieval unit to determine whether the candidate endpoint keyword is a valid endpoint keyword; and a program endpoint time determination unit for performing statistics analysis based on the retrieval result of said keyword retrieval unit and the determination result of said content analysis unit, and determining the endpoint time of the program. In addition, this invention also provides a program information retrieval system. With present invention, program information regarding a program attended by user can be rapidly obtained.

Apparatus and method for issue grouping of instructions in a VLIW processor

An apparatus and method for issue grouping of instructions in a VLIW processor is disclosed. There can be one, two, or three issue groups (but no greater than three issue groups) in each VLIW packet. In one embodiment, a template in the VLIW packet comprises two issue group end markers where each issue group end marker comprises three bits. The three bits in the first issue group end marker identifies the instruction which is the last instruction in the first issue group. Likewise, the three bits in the second issue group end marker identifies the instruction which is the last instruction in the second issue group. Any instructions in the VLIW packet falling outside the two expressly defined first and second issue groups are placed in a third issue group. As such, three issue groups can be identified by use of the two issue group end markers. In one embodiment, the template of the VLIW packet includes a chaining bit. The chaining bit is used to "chain" instructions appearing after the last instruction of the last issue group of a first VLIW packet to the instructions in the first issue group of a second VLIW packet. In one embodiment, a mask generation logic along with other logic blocks are utilized to generate an appropriate mask. The generated mask is used to pass through instructions in a VLIW packet which belong to a same issue group for execution in a same clock cycle.

Method for automatic wrapper repair

A method of information extraction from a Web page using a broken wrapper, includes using the wrapper to extract strings from the Web page parsed in forward direction; analyzing the extracted strings according to a set of rules for assigning labels associated with the wrapper; assigning labels to those strings which satisfy the label rules; classifying the extracted strings based on content features of the labeled extracted strings; validating those labeled extracted strings which satisfy the label rules within some threshold value.

System and method for combined frequency-domain and time-domain pitch extraction for speech signals

A system, computer readable medium, and method for sampling a speech signal; dividing the sampled speech signal into overlapped frames; extracting first pitch information from a frame using frequency domain analysis; providing at least one pitch candidate, each being associated with a spectral score, from the first pitch information, each of the at least one pitch candidate representing a possible pitch estimate for the frame; extracting second pitch information from the frame using a time domain analysis; providing a correlation score for the at least one pitch candidate from the second pitch information; and selecting one of the at least one pitch candidate to represent the pitch estimate of the frame. The system, computer readable medium, and method are suitable for speech coding and for distributed speech recognition.

Vehicle data analysis method and vehicle data analysis system

The invention provides a vehicle data analysis method that enables quantitative analysis of characteristics of vehicle data indicating transition in a driver's driving operation, and a vehicle data analysis system using this analysis method. A plurality of vehicle data are collected based a plurality of types of driving operations. Based on an evaluation criterion as an index for evaluating levels of the driving operations, the collected vehicle data are grouped into at least two groups. Characteristic values of the vehicle data differing between these groups are extracted.
