The invention provides a cuttage and propagation method of a twig of cyclocarya paliurus, which comprises the following steps: (1) cutting trunks and promoting the germination of a scion seed tree from the middle ten days of March to the middle ten days of April; (2) cutting a semi-lignified twig as a cutting spike from the first ten days of June to the first ten days of August, wherein the length of the twig is 10cm to 15cm, 5 to 6 small leaves are remained at the upper part of the twig, and the lower end of the twig is cut into oblique section; (3) dipping 500mg/L to 800mg/L of paste-like root growing agent of indolebutyric acid at the positions of 3cm to 4cm of the lower end of the cutting spike; (4) inserting the cutting spike in a light substrate consisting of carbonized pine bark and sawdust, wherein the cuttage depth is 4cm to 5cm; and (5) shading the cutting spike by a black sunshade net with the shading degree of 50% to 70% after the cuttage, and spraying and moisturizing the cutting spike by adopting an intermittent spraying method. 60 days after the cuttage, the rooting rate reaches over 80%. The method is simple and practical to operate and is suitable for large-scale cuttage; seedlings can effectively keep the excellent inherited characteristics of the seed tree; moreover, the effect of the quick vegetative propagation of improved seeds can be achieved.
