A distributed operating system is a software over a collection of independent, networked, communicating, and physically separate computational nodes. They handle jobs which are serviced by multiple CPUs. Each individual node holds a specific software subset of the global aggregate operating system. Each subset is a composite of two distinct service provisioners. The first is a ubiquitous minimal kernel, or microkernel, that directly controls that node's hardware. Second is a higher-level collection of system management components that coordinate the node's individual and collaborative activities. These components abstract microkernel functions and support user applications.

Method and apparatus for distributed operating system image deployment

A method and apparatus provides for controlling the distribution and installation of operating systems. In one example, the method and apparatus partitions a storage device of a device into a first partition and a second partition. The method and apparatus installs a first operating system into the first partition of the storage device, obtains an image of the second operating system, the image including at least the second operating system pre-configured for operation with the device, and installs, using the first operating system, the image of the operating system to the second partition of the storage device. In an embodiment, the image is transmitted from one or more other devices. In an embodiment, two or more images are cached on the device according to the likelihood they will be used in the future.

In general, this disclosure describes techniques of managing resources in a service-oriented distributed computing system. As described in this disclosure, one or more control nodes provide for the efficient and automated allocation and management of resources within the distributed computing system. In order to provide automated allocation and management of computing functions and resources, a control node uses a set of governors. This set of governors includes a set of service governors to govern services used in the distributed computing system. The set of governors also includes a set of resource governors that govern individual resources of the services in the distributed computing system. The service governors and the resource governors may be implemented using finite state machines.

The method comprises the following steps: setting an authority library of a VxWorks system; performing basic package without disk cache on a block device interface to establish a CBIO (Cache Block Input / Output) device; performing embedded access to a monitor on a block device driver layer and a dosFs (Distributed Operating System Formal System Model) file system driver layer respectively; enabling that a task enters and accesses the monitor firstly during access of block device data, accessing the authority library which is previously set according to the matching of a current task ID (Identifier) and the block device, and controlling the access of the task to the block device data. Compared with the existing access control method, the method has the advantages that a better access control effect is realized and the security of data in the block device is improved.
