A method and Apparatus for solar energy storage system uses gas for thermal transport for central tower solar thermal electric power plant to provide high quality, low cost, and continuously electric power generation. The storage contains a number of storage modules that each module can store energy for a given period of time. The thermal energy from central tower charges the modules one by one during the sunny time, while the thermal electric power plant discharge the modules one by one as long as it works. A control and a connection valve system control and connect the charge and discharge modules with the central tower and the power plant according to pre-arranged sequences. Fans at the cool side of the storage system push the circulation gas into the central tower or the thermal storage modules. In the discharge system, the hot gas from storage system is send to the heat exchange system, and to generate steam and to super heat steam for the power plant. In the charge system, the cold gas is pushed into the central receiver thermal exchange unit and to be heated, and the hot gas is then circulated back to storage system to charge up the storage system.

A suntracking system for a central receiver solar power plant includes a heliostat field for reflecting sunlight to a receiver, cameras directed toward at least a subset of the heliostats, and a controller. The cameras are configured to produce images of sunlight reflected from multiple heliostats. The heliostats include a mirrored surface having a settable orientation and have a geometry modeled by a set of parameters. A method of estimating heliostat parameters for open-loop suntracking includes acquiring pointing samples by setting the direction of reflection of the heliostats and detecting concurrent sunlight reflections into the cameras. The method uses the acquired pointing samples and surveyed locations of the cameras to estimate the heliostat parameters. The method accurately maintains the sun's reflection directed toward the receiver open-loop utilizing the estimated tracking parameters.

Each receiver panel includes a plurality of tubes that terminate at each end at a header. To eliminate the presence of gaps between the tubes of adjacent receiver panels the headers are staggered or beveled. In the staggered configuration the headers of adjacent receiver panels are located in different elevations so that the headers of adjacent receiver panels may overlap each other, thus allowing the headers and tubes of adjacent receiver panels to be positioned closer together to eliminate gaps between the tubes of adjacent panels. In the beveled configuration the headers are angled such that the terminal ends of adjacent headers are parallel and positioned in a closely abutting relationship, resulting in the absence of gaps between adjacent headers and tubes.

The invention is a system and method for heliostat mirror control. Here, each heliostat mirror generates a low intensity “signal beam”, directed at an angle off from the heliostat mirror's high intensity and sensor blinding “main beam” of reflected solar energy. The low intensity signal beams may be created by reflecting a small portion of the incident solar light at an angle from the main beam, by reflected artificial light, or from lasers shinning onto mirrors from known locations. The signal beams are detected by optical sensors mounted way from the main heliostat receiver focus, and can be used in a closed loop control system to efficiently ensure that individual heliostat mirrors in a heliostat array accurately track sunlight and direct the sunlight to a central receiver. Because heliostat mirrors need not be taken “off sun” for positioning, the system allows heliostat arrays to be run at high efficiency.

The structure of the invention is formed by connecting a heat absorption section of each two adjacent high temperature heat pipes by an orthoptera piece and distribution in an alignment. An external surface of the heat absorption section of the high temperature heat pipe and a surface of the orthoptera piece for connecting the high temperature heat pipe are on a high temperature resisting selective absorption coat in a part of the external part of the receiver. The invention solves the defects that the receiver is limited, an idle load state of the high temperature heat pipe exists, the heat-transfer capability is limited, the coefficient of heat transfer is smaller, the heat exchange efficiency is not ideal and so on. The invention, by the busing and the header pipe, improves the heat-transfer capability and the occurrence of the idle load state of the high temperature heat pipe, which is applied to the solar energy power generation in a great scale.

System and method for positioning heliostat

The invention discloses a system for positioning a heliostat. The system comprises a central receiver, the heliostat, a two-dimensional servo system platform, a CCD (Charge Coupled Device) detector, a laser ranging device, a main controller, a flash light emitter and a total reflecting prism. The invention further discloses a method for positioning the heliostat based on the system. The method comprises the following steps of: (1) adjusting the two-dimensional angle of the laser ranging device by using the two-dimensional servo system platform; (2) capturing the heliostat to be measured by using the CCD detector and the flash light emitter; (3) judging the size of the deviation between a laser facula and the center point of the heliostat by using the CCD detector, and controlling and rotating the two-dimensional servo system platform to adjust laser, so that the laser can shot the center of the heliostat; (4) measuring the distance from a laser emission point to the center point of the heliostat by using the laser ranging device; and (5) repeating the steps (1) to (4) to obtain the actual coordinates of the center point of the heliostat according to the distance from the laser ranging device to the center point of the heliostat and the position coordinates of the laser ranging device. According to the system and the method disclosed by the invention, the actual coordinates of the heliostat can be accurately calculated so as to accurately position the heliostat.

The aim of the invention is to build central receiver solar power plants in which the heliostat fields can be used more efficiently. To achieve said aim, a heliostat field consisting of a near field having a uniform reflector surface density ρ of more than 60% is preferably combined with a far field whose reflector surface density ρ decreases as the distance from the receiver increases. The invention also comprises central receiver solar power plants which consist exclusively of a near field having a uniform reflector surface density ρ of more than 60%. The high reflector surface density ρ in the near field and in areas of the far field is achieved by the use of heliostats having rectangular reflectors and a rigid horizontal axle suspension (FHA) or, alternatively, by heliostats having rectangular reflectors and a rigid quasipolar axle suspension (FQA). The heliostat field concentrates the solar radiation on a receiver whose target surface, aperture, thermal absorber or photovoltaic absorber has a normal vector which is directed downward to the heliostat field that extends below the receiver in the directions North, East, South and West. The receiver is mounted in a suspended manner to a support structure that extends over the heliostat field.
