Cooling fluid preheating system for an airfoil in a turbine engine

A platform cooling system usable in a turbine engine together with an airfoil for preheating cooling fluids before the cooling fluids enter a cooling system in the airfoil in a turbine engine. The platform cooling system includes cooling channels in either the ID or OD platforms, or both, of the airfoil. The channels transfer heat to the cooling fluids flowing through the platform cooling system and thereby heat the cooling fluids. The preheated cooling fluids are particularly useful with cooling composite ceramic airfoils, which are susceptible to damage from large temperature gradients developed between combustion gases outside the airfoil and cooling fluids inside the airfoil. The platform cooling system may be combined with an airfoil cooling system to create a serial cooling system in which cooling fluids may enter the platform and flow through the platform and airfoil without being supplemented with additional cooling fluids along the flow path.

Adjustable length bi-directional folding stock for firearm

ActiveUS20180023918A1Selectively accessThe process is feasibleButtsEngineering
A stock for a firearm. In some embodiments, the stock is configured for bi-directional folding to either side of a receiver of the firearm. In some embodiments, the stock is configured for length adjustment. A biasing element is provided for the length adjustment that biases a proximal (butt) subassembly of the stock against the shoulder of the user. The user can adjust the length of the stock by moving his or her shoulder fore and aft against the butt of the stock. The bi-directional folding and the shoulder length adjustment aspects may be incorporated into a single embodiment.

The invention publishes a process to increase the bioleaching speed of ores or concentrates of sulfide metal species in heaps, tailing dams, dumps, or other on-site operations. The process is characterized by the continuous inoculation of the ores or concentrates with isolated microorganisms of the Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans type, together with isolated microorganisms of the Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans type, with or without native microorganisms, in such a way that the total concentration of microorganisms in the continuous inoculation flow is of around 1×107 cells / ml to 5,6×107 cells / ml. In particular, the invention publishes the continuous inoculation of Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans Licanantay DSM 17318 together with Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans Wenelen DSM 16786 microorganisms, or with other native microorganisms at a concentration higher than 5×107 cells / ml. In addition to the inoculation of isolated bacteria, the invention includes the addition of oxidizing agents such as the ferric ion produced externally, together with nutrients in the shape of salts of ammonium, magnesium, iron, potassium, as well as air enriched continuously with carbon dioxide to promote bacterial action in the bioleaching process of ores or concentrates.

System and method for sterilizing food products

InactiveUS20160143342A1Quickly and efficiently temperatureReduce amountMilk preparationMilk preservationThermal energyProcess engineering
The systems and methods of the present invention provide an economically feasible means of thermally processing items such as food products. In some embodiments, the thermal process is a pasteurization process. In other embodiments, the thermal process is a sterilization process. The thermal process utilizes a volumetric heating process to quickly and efficiently add heat energy to the item and then utilizes a surface heating process to obtain a relatively even, highly elevated, temperature throughout the item. In this way, the time required to perform various thermal processes, such as pasteurization and / or sterilization, is greatly reduced compared with traditional processes while still being more reliable and more predictable than other recently developed processes. Furthermore, the system and method is less complicated and more efficient than other systems and processes currently known. Furthermore still, the method includes spraying fluid onto a surface of the item to reduce edge heating.

Modularized System and Method for Urea Production Using Stranded Natural Gas

A modular system and method for producing urea from stranded natural gas includes removal of foreign particulate matter to obtain a substantially homogeneous gas. The gas is processed by controlling the quality of the stranded natural gas to maintain a substantially homogenous mixture The resultant gas stream is further cleaned and compressed to a high pressure of about 3,000 psi. The resultant ammonia stream is processed in a bypass recycling loop system at 30% conversion rate at a high pressure of about 6,000 to 7,000 psi. The equipment associated with each of the process steps may be skid mounted for portability and / or contained within the footprint of a standard 48-foot flatbed trailer.
