Method for a fast state transition from a sleep mode to an awake mode in a broadband wireless access communication system

InactiveUS20050054389A1Quick transitionMinimized transmission delayPower managementSubstation equipmentBroadbandBase station
A method for mode transition of a subscriber station between a sleep mode and an awake mode in a broadband wireless access communication system including a base station and at least the subscriber station, the subscriber station having data to transmit in the awake mode and not having data to transmit in the sleep mode is disclosed. The method includes receiving a dedicated orthogonal code from the base station and transiting into the sleep mode in the awake mode, the dedicated orthogonal code being allocated exclusively to the subscriber station; and in the sleep mode, transmitting a message to the base station by means of the dedicated orthogonal code in order to transit into the awake mode.

Adaptive control for transition between multiple modulation modes in a switching power converter

In a switching power converter, PWM mode and PFM mode are separated into two independent control sections with the control voltage range in each control section determined independently. Each of the PWM and PFM modulation modes cannot operate continuously beyond its boundaries, thereby forming a control gap between the two control sections within which no continuous operation is allowed. In order to supply a load condition within the control gap, the power supply operates at the two boundaries of the control gap. Transition between PWM and PFM modes occurs fast, with low output voltage ripple. No limitation needs to be imposed on the control voltage range in each of the PWM and PFM control sections, because the control parameters in the PWM and PFM control sections need not be matched to one another, due to separation of the PWM and PFM modes by the control gap.

Audio spectral noise reduction method and apparatus

A method of reducing noise in an audio signal, comprising the steps of: using a furrow filter to select spectral components that are narrow in frequency but relatively broad in time; using a bar filter to select spectral components that are broad in frequency but relatively narrow in time; analyzing the relative energy distribution between the output of the furrow and bar filters to determine the optimal proportion of spectral components for the output signal; and reconstructing the audio signal to generate the output signal. A second pair of time-frequency filters may be used to further improve intelligibility of the output signal. The temporal relationship between the furrow filter output and the bar filter output may be monitored so that the fricative components are allowed primarily at boundaries between intervals with no voiced signal present and intervals with voice components. A noise reduction system for an audio signal.

Synchronizing Uplink and Downlink Transmissions in a Wireless Device

Synchronizing uplink and downlink transmissions by a wireless user equipment (UE) device. A connection with a network may be established via a wireless link with a cell. The UE may operate in an active state during first periods of time in which uplink or downlink communications may be performed between the UE and the network. The UE may operate in a reduced-power state during second periods of time in which uplink and downlink communications are not performed. The first periods of time may alternate with the second periods of time in a repeating manner. Uplink data generated by the UE may be buffered during second periods of time and transmitted during first periods of time. Buffering uplink data in this manner may prevent the UE from immediately transitioning from the reduced-power state to the active state to transmit uplink data, which may conserve battery of the UE.
