Noise suppression

A method of noise suppression to suppress noise in a signal containing background noise (314) in a communications path between a cellular communications network and a mobile terminal. The method comprises the steps of: estimating and up-dating a spectrum of the background noise (332, 334); using the background noise spectrum to suppress noise in the signal; generating an indication to indicate the operation of at least one of a discontinuous transmission unit (DTX) and a bad frame handling unit (BFI); and freezing estimating and up-dating of the spectrum of the background noise when the indication is present.

Coding rate conversion apparatus, coding rate conversion method, and integrated circuit

A plurality of macroblocks constituting coded data are inverse quantized using a first quantization matrix that is used when coding a picture, to obtain a plurality of sets of coefficient data. The first quantization matrix is converted to a second quantization matrix using a first conversion value and a second conversion value, where the first conversion value is for converting a low frequency coefficient corresponding to a frequency lower than a predetermined frequency among a plurality of coefficients shown by the first quantization matrix, and the second conversion value is for converting a high frequency coefficient among the plurality of coefficients and is larger than the first conversion value (Step S408). When the second quantization matrix is a matrix for increasing a coding rate of the coded data, a converted scale is calculated by multiplying a quantization scale corresponding to at least one macroblock by β1 (≧1). At least one part of the plurality of sets of coefficient data is quantized using the second quantization matrix and a calculated converted scale that corresponds to a macroblock corresponding to the at least one part of the plurality of sets of coefficient data.

System, mobile communication unit and method for testing a receiver performance

A system, a mobile communication unit and a method for analyzing a receiver performance of a mobile communication unit are provided. An information is generated in a system simulator, and is transmitted in a transmission signal from a testing device to a mobile communication unit under test via a unidirectional channel. The transmission signal is received and analyzed by the receiver the performance of which is to be tested. By analyzing the received transmission signal the information included in the transmission signal is being obtained. The information obtained from the analysis of the transmission signal is transmitted back from the mobile communication unit in a backtransmission signal via an independent backtransmission channel. The backtransmission signal received by the testing device is analyzed by the testing device for obtaining the information included in the backtransmission signal and the result is compared to the information originally generated.

Scanning probe microscope and specimen surface structure measuring method

A digital probing type atomic force microscope (AFM) for measuring high aspect structures with high precision. A probe 21 is vibrated while moved to the vicinity of an atomic force region on a specimen surface. The position of the probe is measured when a specified atomic force is detected in the atomic force region. The probe is then moved away from the specimen surface. A servo system for maintaining a gap between the probe and specimen surface is stopped. The probe is moved to a measurement point along the specimen surface while kept away from the specimen. The vibration frequency is a frequency slightly offset from the cantilever resonance point. The atomic force is detected based on the vibration amplitude of the cantilever.

Signal processing apparatus and signal processing method

An apparatus includes a test signal generation unit supplying test signals to an orthogonal modulator and a control unit that based on a result of decision by comparison and decision of detection results of a detector detecting envelopes of modulated signals output from the orthogonal modulator responsive to the test signals, derives adjustment values and a compensation value. An estimation means estimates a DC offset and an IQ mismatch of the orthogonal modulator, based on the derived compensation value. The test signals includes a first set including a first test signal (I1, Q1) and a second test signal (I2, Q2) having a predetermined relationship with the first test signal, and a second set of which in-phase and quadrature components have predetermined relationships respectively with in-phase and quadrature components of the first set.
