Shape memory alloy actuation apparatus

An SMA actuation apparatus comprises a camera lens element supported on a support structure by a plurality of flexures. An SMA wire at an acute angle to the movement axis and a biasing element are connected between the support structure and the movable element. A component of the force applied by the SMA wire perpendicular to the movement axis compresses the flexures causing them to apply a force to the movable element having a component along the movement axis in the same direction as the SMA wire. An end-stop limits the movement of the movable element, and the moment applied by the end-stop to the movable element about the center of stiffness is equal to the moment applied by the SMA wire about the center of stiffness at the point when the movable element loses contact with the end-stop on contraction of the SMA wire.

Axial Fan

In an axial fan, a case (40) accommodating the fan motor stator (50) is anchored into a bearing retainer (10), in which ball bearings (20, 21) as a bearing unit are accommodated, along a bulge part (13) formed on the lower end portion thereof. The case (40) extends heading axially downward, wherein there is no diametrical overlap between the ball bearings (20, 21) and the stator (50). Since only the bulge part (13) of the bearing retainer (10) is fixed to the case (40), heat arising from the stator (50) is thermally conveyed via the case (40) only to the bulge part (13). The fact that the thermal conveyance zone is minimal enables unrestrained curtailment of heat transmitted to the ball bearings (20, 21). As a result the axial fan can be designed for prolonged bearing lifespan.

Object lens driving device, optical pickup, and optical disk drive

An object lens driving device is disclosed that has a small tilt even when focusing and tracking operations are performed at the same time. A movable unit including an object lens holding member with an object lens, focus coils and track coils attached thereon is supported by two sets of four wire springs, totaling eight wire springs, connected to fixed units on two sides of the object lens holding member in the tangential direction. When the movable unit is set to face a driving magnet which has a boundary line at the center portion of the magnet and parallel to the focusing direction, and boundary lines at two ends of the magnet and parallel to the tracking direction, the interval Lc_Fo between centers of the focus coils in the tracking direction is less than the interval Lm_Fo between centers of magnetic flux density distributions of the magnet. Consequently, a moment is generated to cancel out a tilt of the movable unit occurring in a supporting system when the movable unit moves in the focusing direction and the tracking direction.

Transportation pallet and method for depalletizing load

A height-adjustable shock pallet includes a lower deck and an upper deck. A central portion of the upper deck is sized to receive a rack-mounted information handling system (IHS) for shipping. Air bags attached between the lower and upper decks are selectively inflatable to protect the rack-mounted IHS during transport and deflatable to position the upper deck proximate to the lower deck for unloading. A controller can detect a tilt of the upper deck and differentially inflate or deflate respective subsets of the air bags to rebalance the upper deck. The controller maintains the rack-mounted IHS horizontal to prevent tipping during transport. Integral or attachable caster wheels can enable repositioning of the height-adjustable shock pallet with the air bags deflated.
