A shovel for manual use, comprising a shovel blade having concave and convex faces and defining a longitudinal center-line and having side edges, an upper edge and a forward cutting edge. The shovel blade defines a handle connector receptable having a shovel handle fixed therein. A root cutting blade is fixed to the shovel blade substantially along the longitudinal center-line and projects from the concave face of the shovel blade. A sharpened root cutting edge is defined on the root cutting blade and is oriented toward the forward cutting edge of the shovel blade. The root cutting edge of the central blade preferably defines an intermediate edge recess and forms a slightly inclined sharp edge section for enhancing root cutting action. A pair of side blades are fixed to side edge portions of the shovel blade and are oriented in diverging relation projecting from the convex face of the shovel blade. The side blades also preferably define forwardly inclined sharpened cutting edges and are located for cutting surface roots at respective sides of the shovel blade to facilitate efficient fracturing of the soil when the shovel blade has penetrated into the soil and is pivoted to pry a soil load loose from the surrounding soil.

Tooling apparatuses and processes for providing precision shapes in medical catheters

Systems and methods for providing a precision-notch shape in a flexible medical catheter are disclosed. The system comprises a clamp punch die assembly, a clamping device, and a knife-edge punch die. A catheter blank can be inserted in a clamp die about a die pin. The clamping device forces together upper and lower portions of the clamp die, which causes the clamp die to restrain the catheter blank against the die pin. Once the catheter blank is restrained, a punch die with one or more finely-honed blades passes through a notched region in the clamp die and a notched area in the die pin without contacting either to provide the precision-notched portion in the catheter blank. The restraint provided by the clamp die minimizes rotation of the catheter blank, which prevents tearing and excess flashing.

Bracket assembly for lifting and supporting a lightweight foundation

A bracket assembly rests upon a pile or deep foundation pier set adjacent to a lightweight structure or foundation element such as a porch. The bracket slides upon a pile or deep foundation pier and adjusts from the side of the pile or deep foundation pier. The bracket assembly has a weldment with bearing and guide members. The bearing member supports the lightweight structure or foundation element while the guide member raises the bearing member on the pile or deep foundation pier. The guide member has a sleeve and U-shaped bolt to grasp the pile or deep foundation pier. A cap plate atop the pile or deep foundation pier connects to the guide member through rods. Turning nuts on the upper end of the rods pulls them and thus the lightweight structure or foundation element upwards. The bracket assembly is lightweight and supports approximately five thousand pounds.

Separation device having a centrifugal rotor

In a separation device for separating particles from a liquid, which is present in a container, a centrifugal rotor is rotatable around a vertical rotational axis. The centrifugal rotor has a tubular inlet member, which extends down into liquid to be treated and which upon rotation of the centrifugal rotor forms a pumping member adapted to pump liquid upwardly and into the centrifugal rotor. The rotatable inlet member is surrounded by a non-rotatable wall, a sealing device being adapted to seal between the rotatable inlet member and the non-rotatable wall. Thereby is avoided that liquid is pumped upwardly on the outside of the inlet member. Furthermore, a smallest possible part of the outside of the inlet member can be in contact with liquid, independent of the level of the liquid surface in the container.
