Efficient navigation of autonomous carriers

According to the invention, autonomous carriers or vehicles are efficiently navigated over a field of operation. The carriers are equipped to execute a selected procedure at more than one desired location on the field, and the navigation system of the invention directs the carrier to the location that is preferentially accessible to it, based on a defined criterion. After the carrier has executed the selected procedure at the location which is preferentially accessible to it, the navigation system directs the carrier to the location which is preferentially accessible to the carrier from the carrier's new position. This procedure is repeated until all the locations at which the procedure is to be executed have been reached. The task of determining a navigation route to a location that can be preferentially accessed is based on an efficient, structured search procedure of low computational complexity.

Method for augmenting transaction data with visually extracted demographics of people using computer vision

InactiveUS8010402B1Effectively measure performance of their FLM strategyIncrease profitSpecial data processing applicationsMarket data gatheringFeature vectorTransaction data
The present invention is a system and framework for augmenting any retail transaction system with information about the involved customers. This invention provides a method to combine the transaction data records and a customer or a group of customers with the automatically extracted demographic features (e.g., gender, age, and ethnicity), shopping group information, and behavioral information using computer vision algorithms. First, the system detects faces from face view, tracks them individually, and estimates poses of each of the tracked faces to normalize. These facial images are processed by the demographics classification module to determine and record the demographics feature vector. The system detects and tracks customers to analyze the dynamic behavior of the tracked customers so that their shopping group membership and checkout behavior can be recognized. Then the instances of faces and the instances of bodies can be matched and combined. Finally, the transaction data from the transaction data and the demographics, group, and checkout behavior data that belong to the same person or the same group of people are combined.

Systems and methods for managing content associated with multiple brand categories within a social media system

Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to aspects of an Internet-accessible brand management system (BMS) that allows marketers (e.g., corporations, organizations, etc.) to efficiently organize, create, maintain, and display content associated with many brand categories or brand items within a brand category on a single social media system (SMS) page / account, or alternatively, across many SMS pages or accounts with one or more common content themes. Administrators / developers of individual marketing pages or accounts (global and local) may update their pages through the BMS using standard configurable templates. The system may integrate content from one or more developers to create content for varying pages (for example, by incorporating some global content into local pages according to configurable rules, or vice versa). Subsequently, when a social media system user requests content associated with a particular brand category or brand item within that category on a social media system, the brand management system renders the updated, requested marketing page associated with that category, but within a global marketer page, or with common marketer content also provided.

Hand-held portable fundus camera for screening photography

System and Method pertaining to the modification and integration of an existing consumer digital camera, for example, with an optical imaging module to enable point and shoot fundus photography of the eye. The auto-focus macro capability of existing consumer cameras is adapted to photograph the retina over an extended diopter range, eliminating the need for manual diopter focus adjustment. The thru-the-lens (TTL) auto-exposure flash capability of existing consumer cameras is adapted to photograph the retina with automatic flash exposure eliminating the need for manual flash adjustment. The consumer camera imaging sensor and flash are modified to allow the camera sensor to perform both non-mydriatic focusing of the retina using infrared illumination and standard color flash photography of the retina without the need for additional imaging sensors or mechanical filters. These modifications and integration of existing consumer cameras for fundus photography of the eye significantly improve ease of manufacture and usability over existing fundus cameras.

Method and apparatus for dynamic adaptation of a large vocabulary speech recognition system and for use of constraints from a database in a large vocabulary speech recognition system

The lexical network of a large-vocabulary speech recognition system is structured to effectuate the rapid and efficient addition of words to the system's active vocabulary. The lexical network is structured to include Phonetic Constraint Nodes, which organize the inter-word phonetic information in the network, and Word Class Nodes which organize the syntactic semantic information in the network. Network fragments, corresponding to phonetic pronunciations and labeled to specify permitted interconnections to each other and to phonetic constraint nodes, are precompiled to facilitate the rapid generation of pronunciations for new words and thereby enhance the rapid addition of words to the vocabulary even during speech recognition. Functions defined in accordance with linguistic constraints may be utilized during recognition. Different language models and different vocabularies for different portions of a discourse may also be invoked depending, in part, on the discourse history.

Composition of Pattern-Driven Reactions in Real-Time Dataflow Programming

A technique implements a dataflow graph, taking a number of streams of data inputs and transforms these inputs into a number of streams of outputs. The dataflow graph can perform pattern matching. The technique implements reactions via the composition of pattern matching across joined streams of input data. A completeness of matching an input sequence to a particular input pattern can be characterized as having at least three different degrees, such as cold (not yet matched), warm (e.g., minimally matched), and hot (e.g., maximally matched). The input pattern to be matched can have a variable length, including zero length or unlimited or arbitrarily large length. Data flows can be on a push basis or pull basis, or a combination, and may change depending on the state.

Allocation cache premarking for snap-shot-at-the-beginning concurrent mark-and-sweep collector

Tracking newly created objects during a garbage collection cycle includes marking newly allocated objects in the GC cycle during the allocation cache population phase. The goal is to take a high performance system for tracing live objects, such as the mark map, and combine the SATB with a cached allocation system for heap memory such that SATB representation is preserved. Embodiments combine both efficient support for an SATB model during a collection cycle and a highly optimized allocation path for heap objects in an allocation scheme (which may optionally be a size segregated class allocation scheme) that allows both mechanisms to co-exist effectively. Specifically, embodiments track newly created objects during a GC cycle such that they are kept alive during the trace phase while continuing to support a highly efficient allocating caching strategy.

Enhancing adhesion of interlayer dielectric materials of semiconductor devices by suppressing silicide formation at the substrate edge

Adhesion of dielectric layer stacks to be formed after completing the basic configuration of transistor elements may be increased by avoiding the formation of a metal silicide in the edge region of the substrate. For this purpose, a dielectric protection layer may be selectively formed in the edge region prior to a corresponding pre-clean process or immediately prior to deposition of the refractory metal. Hence, non-reacted metal may be efficiently removed from the edge region without creating a non-desired metal silicide. Hence, the further processing may be continued on the basis of enhanced process conditions for forming interlayer dielectric materials.

Efficient State Machines for Real-Time Dataflow Programming

An efficient state-machine-based pattern matching technique processes tokens in an input queue and identifies patterns in the sequence of tokens that match one or more predetermined input patterns without backtracking. Tokens can include data or no data and a time component. The tokens can be a stream of data generated by a sensor, which transforms a physical property into a digital quantity. The pattern matching technique processes the input queue in a single direction, and does not examine any previously examined token. In an implementation, specific patterns to be matched are specified using a state machine, where the state machine is specified in a state table and operates using a state stack.
