In some cases, the pipeline is mostly on-land but in places it crosses water expanses, such as small seas, straits and rivers. Submarine pipelines are used primarily to carry oil or gas, but transportation of water is also important. A distinction is sometimes made between a flowline and a pipeline. The former is an intrafield pipeline, in the sense that it is used to connect subsea wellheads, manifolds and the platform within a particular development field. The latter, sometimes referred to as an export pipeline, is used to bring the resource to shore. The fluid blaster assembly is configured for mounting to the second opening of the hot tap saddle component. The support frame assembly is configured for gripping and supporting the subsea pipeline on the sea floor while the fluid blaster assembly operates to remove a blockage in the subsea pipeline with the pipeline being under pressure and without severing the pipeline.

The regasification system includes a heat input source of exhaust gas heat exchangers, electric water heaters and supplemental heaters to provide an additional heat source to a hot water circulating loop. The liquefied natural gas contacts the hot water or heating medium circulating loop and is regasified. An undersea conduit from the ship transmits the regasified natural gas to an on shore plant.

Low temperature method and system for forming field joints on undersea pipelines

A method for forming a field joints between sections of coated or insulated pipe which are to be welded together and incorporated into an undersea pipeline for carrying single or multi-phase fluids such as oil, gas and water. The method includes the application of a liquid epoxy layer which overlaps a lip of the factory-applied FBE coating protruding beyond a chamfered end of the factory-applied insulation layer, and which may be applied over the entire weld joint area. The liquid epoxy layer is partially cured by application of heat, and a layer of powdered adhesive is applied onto the partially cured liquid epoxy layer. The adhesive is subsequently sintered and activated by application of heat to its outer surface. The outer surfaces of the adhesive layer and the chamfers are then preheated and the thermal joint insulation is injection molded over the entire joint area. Throughout the entire method the temperature of the factory-applied FBE coating is maintained below its glass transition temperature so as to avoid weakening the bond between the FBE coating and the underlying steel pipe. The number and sequence of steps can be varied, depending at least partly on whether the liquid epoxy and adhesive layers are applied in a pipe coating facility or in the field.

Gas offloading system

A system is described for offloading LNG (liquified natural gas) from a tanker for eventual delivery to an onshore gas distribution station. The system includes a floating structure that floats at the sea surface and that is connected to the tanker so they weathervane together. The floating structure carries a regas unit that heats the LNG to produce gas, and delivers the gas through a riser to an underground cavern that stores the gas. Gas from the cavern is delivered through a seafloor pipeline to an onshore gas distribution station. The regas unit includes water pumps and other equipment that is powered by electricity. The electricity can be obtained from an electric generator on the floating structure, with surplus electricity delivered through a sea floor electric power line that extends along the sea floor to an onshore electricity distribution facility. The electricity can instead be obtained by delivery from an onshore facility though a sea floor electric power line that extends up to the floating structure and to the regas unit.
