The filmstrip is a form of still image instructional multimedia, once commonly used by educators in primary and secondary schools (K-12), overtaken at the end of the 1980s by newer and increasingly lower-cost full-motion videocassettes and later on by DVDs. From the 1940s to 1980s, filmstrips provided an easy and inexpensive alternative to 16 mm educational films, requiring very little storage space and being very quick to rewind for the next use. Filmstrips were large and durable, and rarely needed splicing. They are still used in some areas.

Watermark embedder and reader

A watermark system includes an embedder, detector, and reader. The watermark embedder encodes a watermark signal in a host signal to create a combined signal. The detector looks for the watermark signal in a potentially corrupted version of the combined signal, and computes its orientation. Finally, a reader extracts a message in the watermark signal from the combined signal using the orientation to approximate the original state of the combined signal. While adapted for images, video and audio, the watermark system applies to other electronic and physical media. For example, it can be applied to mark graphical models, blank paper, film and other substrates, texturing objects for ID purposes, etc.

Multi-format audio/video production system

An audio / video production system facilitates professional quality image manipulation and editing using an enhanced general-purpose hardware. A program input may be translated into any of a variety of graphics or television formats, including NTSC, PAL, SECAM and HDTV, and stored as data-compressed images, using any of several commercially available methods such as Motion JPEG, MPEG, etc. While being processed, the images may be re-sized to produce a desired aspect ratio or dimensions using conventional techniques such as pixel interpolation. Frame rate conversion to and from conventional formats is performed by using the techniques employed for film-to-NTSC and film-to-PAL transfers, or by inter-frame interpolation, all well known in the art. By judicious selection of the optimal digitizing parameters, the system allows a user to establish an interrelated family of aspect ratios, resolutions, and frame rates, yet remain compatible with currently available and planned graphics and television formats.

Videoconferencing system providing virtual physical context

In a teleconferencing system, multiple parties participate in a teleconference from different locations. The system is configured such that a filmstrip containing simultaneous images or icons representing the participants are displayed on one or more display screens at a conference location in a spatial relationship that represents their real-world or virtual-world spatial relationships

Human-machine-interface and method for manipulating data in a machine vision system

This invention provides a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that operates in connection with a machine vision detector or other machine vision system, which provides a highly intuitive and industrial machine-like appearance and layout. The GUI includes a centralized image frame window surrounded by panes having buttons and specific interface components that the user employs in each step of a machine vision system set up and run procedure. One pane allows the user to view and manipulate a recorded filmstrip of image thumbnails taken in a sequence, and provides the filmstrip with specialized highlighting (colors or patterns) that indicate useful information about the underlying images. The system is set up and run are using a sequential series of buttons or switches that are activated by the user in turn to perform each of the steps needed to connect to a vision system, train the system to recognize or detect objects/parts, configure the logic that is used to handle recognition/detection signals, set up system outputs from the system based upon the logical results, and finally, run the programmed system in real time. The programming of logic is performed using a programming window that includes a ladder logic arrangement. A thumbnail window is provided on the programming window in which an image from a filmstrip is displayed, focusing upon the locations of the image (and underlying viewed object/part) in which the selected contact element is provided.

System and method for providing image products and/or services

A system and method for obtaining photographic products and / or services comprises bundling image capture and printing technologies into products and / or services that are paid for by a consumer with monthly or yearly subscription fees. The system and method involves selecting a camera and selecting a photographic products / service plan which designates photographic products and / or services which are to be associated with the selected camera. The system and method gives the consumer the option of selecting a specific camera from a menu of cameras, and a specific photographic product / service plan which is to be associated with the selected camera from a product / service menu. As a further option, the consumer can customize his / her product / service plan in accordance with his / her preference. The plan can provide for products and / or services for images captured and / or film exposed by the camera for a predetermined amount of time at a predetermined fee. At the end of the plan, the consumer could have the option of returning the camera, exchanging the camera for a different camera, or keeping the camera at no cost or for a reduced price. The photographic products and / or services provided by the plan could be products and / or services such as film developing, printing, image products, scanning, photo CDs, image storage, etc.

Combined monitor and light box assembly

A combined monitor and light box assembly installable in a crib enclosure occupied by an infant. The assembly which is interactive with the infant includes a light box on whose front face is mounted a semi-reflective mirror behind which is a film transparency having a photographic image of the infant's mother. When a light bulb in the box is energized to illuminate the transparency, the image of the mother becomes visible to the infant through the mirror which is then effectively transparent. Associated with the light box is a sound-activated switching device connected between the bulb and a power source. The switching device, when activated by crying sounds emanating from the infant, remains activated for a predetermined period to energize the bulb and illuminate the transparency. Also associated with the light box is a record playback unit having stored therein a voice message recorded by the mother addressed to her infant, the unit being rendered operative only when the bulb is energized. Hence when the infant cries, it is then presented with an image of its mother and hears her comforting message, as a consequence of which the infant is induced to stop crying. The monitor which is operative only after the switch is activated, radio-transmits the crying sounds then emanating from the infant to a receiver that can be heard by the mother.

Moisture barrier protection system and method

A tough, high-strength geomembrane made from a custom blend of polyethylene copolymers, for protecting waterproofing courses from impact and pressure damage of debris resting against the waterproof course. A slip sheet configuration reduces surfaces stress due to earth movement and subsurface cracking thereby maintaining the protective course intact without any effect on the waterproofing layers. The geomembrane is available as lightweight rolls which can be easily be handled by one man. The film is installed horizontally in continuous sheets with few adhesive joints. Installation begins by applying a thick brush coat of the selected waterproofing membrane material (usually a rubber coat but may be any waterpoofing material). The film is unrolled along the wall, held up into position and secured using plastic self-sealing plugs and / or plastic termination bars. Concrete nails are used to attach the self-sealing plugs or termination bar to the wall. If termination bar is selected the film is extended up beyond the bar approximately 8'' and folded down over the termination bar after attachment. Staples into the termination bar can be used to hold the film down creating a nicely detailed upper edge.
