An integrated enclosure / touch screen assembly. A touch screen assembly consisting of a display mechanism and optical sensor mechanism are enclosed within a single piece cover. The optical sensor mechanism consists of lens structure and optical sensor couple to the lens structure. The single piece cover includes a transparent top surface and the lens structure is embedded within the transparent top surface. The transparent top surface of the single piece cover provides an enclosure that is both dust free and waterproof.The lens structure of the single piece cover functions by columnating light across the transparent surface. The optical touch sensor is coupled to the lens structure to register contact with the transparent surface via the lens structure by detecting disturbances in the columnated light. In one embodiment, the single piece cover is constructed by embedding the lens structure directly into the transparent surface. This process forms the single piece cover and also may be used to provide various shapes for the outer edges of the cover. The single piece cover eliminates exposed seams of the touch screen assembly. Additionally, the transparent surface is disposed directly above the display without any intervening layers, thereby improving the transmission of light to the display.

A data processing system and method are disclosed for disabling a portable computer in response to the portable computer being moved outside of an authorized area of use. An authorized, geographical area of use is established. The authorized, geographical area is any geographical area capable of being defined. The geographical area is not limited to areas within an enclosure, and is not bounded by a transmitter's broadcast range. A determination is made regarding whether the portable computer is located outside of the authorized area. If the portable computer is moved outside of the authorized area, the portable computer is disabled. The portable computer is inoperable when disabled.

The security system prevents theft of articles from an enclosure having a lockable access opening. Using RFID technology, a transponder periodically scans the enclosed display area to interrogate RFID tags associated with each of the articles within the enclosure. An apparatus for deterministically killing one of redundant servers integrated into a network storage appliance chassis along with at least one storage controller is disclosed. Each server can generate a kill signal on a backplane of the chassis to the other server in response to a stopped heartbeat of the other server in order to disable the I / O ports of the other server on a network so the live server can reliably take over the identity of the other server on the network. Unlike conventional kill paths, such as an Ethernet cable connecting the two servers in separate chassis, the present invention does not require the failed server to be operational since the kill path is substantially a direct reset to the I / O ports of the failed server. When low power consumption is desired, the PDA controls the computer architecture, and when increased computing power is needed the PC is given control of the computer architecture. To maintain portability feature of a small size PDA a removable or detachable PDA is integrated into the chassis housing the computer architecture. The PDA is housed in a package that may be placed in an expansion bay or connected to the exterior of the chassis. A protective case for a mobile device is disclosed. The case includes an additional power source (i.e., a battery) that can supply electric current to the mobile device. A processing device within the protective case may be wirelessly connected to the mobile device, such as with a Bluetooth interface, and thereby control operational aspects of the battery case, including for example control over supplying power to the mobile device. The battery case may be part of a charging system or kit that includes a uniquely designed separate charger. In one embodiment, a clam shell keyboard case may include a tablet panel with a hollowed out bed defined by a recessed back surface and a raised perimeter edge extending around the recessed back surface. The perimeter edge can have an internal shape and size substantially matching a shape and size of an external perimeter edge of a tablet computer to be held in the hollowed out bed. The tablet panel can be hingedly coupled to a keyboard panel having a keyboard. When a tablet computer is held in the hollowed out bed of the tablet panel, the keyboard can be used for input and / or control actions with respect to the tablet computer.

An efficient method of heat removal from rack mounted computer equipment, network gear and other electronic equipment, consisting of solid heat conducting components in direct contact with the heat generating sources. In particular, this invention is primarily focused on the ability to efficiently and effectively cool computer equipment in standard computer rack cabinets.This invention utilizes a design that retains the general existing form factor of the rack mounted computer equipment, but uses direct contact heat transfer to a metal heat transfer conduit (Copper, Aluminum or other metal or efficient heat conducting material) contained within the computer equipment chassis. Furthermore, it is thermally coupled to an external rack mounted solid-to-fluid heat exchanger as an efficient method of heat transfer and removal. This is much more efficient than air as heat transfer medium which it the common method of heat removal from existing standardized rack mounted computer equipment.This invention covers the design of the heat transfer components within the chassis of rack mounted computer server and the heat transfer system components external to the server within rack enclosure, as well as the external cooling system components necessary to connect to existing fluid based heat transfer and removal systems and processes.

A storage area network management and configuration system is provided. The system includes an enterprise network that has a plurality of computer systems, and some of the plurality of computer systems include a server component, some include a client component, and some include both the client component and the server component.
