Apparatus and method for positioning an engine throttle

A method for controlling the speed of an engine driving a generator supplying electrical current to a load includes the steps of monitoring the current, increasing the speed when the current increases and decreasing the speed when the current decreases. The governor apparatus used to carry out the method includes a microcontroller having a current and frequency look-up table embedded in it. For some part of the monitoring step, the engine runs at a first speed, e.g., idle speed, or some moderate speed above idle speed. The increasing step includes detecting an increase in the current to a value, determining from the look-up table the frequency corresponding to the value and increasing the speed of the engine until the frequency of the current is the frequency corresponding to the value. To state it in other words, the new method and apparatus control the engine at a modest speed when the generator is unloaded or lightly loaded and increases engine speed and current frequency with increases in generator load.

Release and Retention of Viscosity Modifiers Based on Oil Temperature

Disclosed are articles, lubrication systems, and methods that sequester lubricant viscosity modifiers via adsorption of the viscosity modifier molecules onto a molecular sieve material at lubricant temperatures below a threshold temperature and release of the viscosity modifier molecules from the molecular sieve material at lubricant temperatures at about the threshold temperature so that the viscosity modifier molecules are in the lubricant at temperatures from about the threshold temperature and higher. In this way, the viscosity modifier molecules are removed from the lubricant at temperatures where the lubricant has sufficient viscosity but released into the lubricant when they can useful increase the lubricant viscosity because it otherwise would be too low.

A novel and useful improvement to vane pumps, both variable displacement vane pumps and fixed displacement vane pumps, provides a supply of pressurized fluid to the region within the diameter of the pump rotor which would otherwise be a region of reduced pressure wherein air could be ingested by the pump. By reducing or preventing the ingestion of air, operating noise and damage to the pump can be reduced and wear in an engine or other system supplied from the pump can be reduced. The supply of pressurized working fluid also can be used to lubricate auxiliary components and / or accessories as well. Further, a portion of the supply of pressurized working fluid to this region can act to supercharge the pump, reducing the occurrence of cavitation at higher operating speeds.
