In order to determine the target rotational speed, a synchronous target rotational speed at which the same wheel circumferential velocity is set at at least one wheel of the second axle as at the wheels of the first axle is determined in dependence on the actual rotational speed of the first axle. The target rotational speed for the second axle is then determined in dependence on the determined synchronous target rotational speed.
