Detection of Analytes in a Dual-mediator Electrochemical Test Strip

Determination of an analyte such as glucose in a sample is done making use of a plurality of electron transfer reagents, for example two electron transfer reagents, that work together to transfer electrons between the enzyme and the electrodes. The first electron transfer agent is a mediator that interacts with the enzyme after it has acted on the analyte to regenerate enzyme in its active form. The second electron transfer agent is a shuttle that interacts with the electrodes and optionally the mediator. The oxidation and reduction of the shuttle serves as the major source of current that is measured as an indication of analyte.

Light sensor with modulated radiant polychromatic source

An apparatus is described for assessing plant status using biophysical and biochemical properties of the plant remotely sensed by the invention thereby allowing selective monitoring, elimination or treatment of individual plants. In a preferred embodiment, a single polychromatic emitter provides coincident light beams; one beam substantially in the visible portion of the spectrum (400 nm to 700 nm) and the other in the near infrared (NIR) portion of the spectrum (700 nm to 1100 nm). This light beam illuminates a small surface area on the ground, which may be bare ground, desired plants or undesired weeds. The beam of light may be focused, collimated or non-focused. A detector array, usually composed of a visible detector and a NIR detector, detects portions of this polychromatic light beam reflected by the surface area and provides a signal indicative of whether the detected light was reflected by a plant or by some non-plant object such as soil. A controller analyzes this signal and, assuming a plant is detected, responds by activating a device to take some action with respect to the plant or stores the analyzed signal with corresponding DGPS position in the controller's memory for later analysis. A number of actions may be taken by the controller. For instance, if the plant is a weed, the desired action might be to spray herbicide on the weed. Or, if the plant is a crop that is determined to be lacking in nutrient, the desired action may be to apply fertilizer. Additionally, if the plant under test is a turf landscape, such as found on golf courses and sporting fields, plant biomass may be mapped and geo-located using GPS for later, comparative analysis.

Positioning of mobile objects based on mutually transmitted signals

Location estimation for a first target object assisted by a second target object, which have co-located signalling devices is provided. A positioning engine employs a data model of a location-dependent physical quantity and determines location probability distributions for the target objects. One signalling device sends positioning-assisting signals to the other which makes observations from it. The positioning engineuses observations on the physical quantity and the positioning-assisting signals to make a quantity observation set, and determines location probability distributions for the target objects. The positioning engine determines an updated first location probability distribution based on the location probability distributions and the positioning-assisting observation set. The positioning engine determines the location estimate for the first target object based on the updated first location probability distribution and triggers a physical action based on the location estimate for the first target object.

Method and Arragement for Advanced Routing Metrics in Multihop Networks

The inventors have envisioned a multihop network scenario in which nodes are equipped with advanced multi-antenna arrangements, and recognized the advantage of exploring the presence of such advanced antenna arrangements in multihop network nodes for the specific purpose of determining link cost for routing in the network. A basic idea of the invention is therefore to determine link cost for a wireless link between a pair of nodes in the network based on multi-channel characteristics between the nodes, where at least one of the nodes is configured for operation with multiple antennas to provide for multiple channels. These multi-channel characteristics may for example be determined based on explicit channel matrix estimation and / or the number of transmit and receive antennas or other information on the antenna capabilities of the involved nodes. The determined link cost information may subsequently be used together with additional routing cost information for route determination, and packet forwarding.

Gas-mapping 3D imager measurement techniques and method of data processing

Measurement approaches and data analysis methods are disclosed for combining 3D topographic data with spatially-registered gas concentration data to increase the efficiency of gas monitoring and leak detection tasks. Here, the metric for efficiency is defined as reducing the measurement time required to achieve the detection, or non-detection, of a gas leak with a desired confidence level. Methods are presented for localizing and quantifying detected gas leaks. Particular attention is paid to the combination of 3D spatial data with path-integrated gas concentration measurements acquired using remote gas sensing technologies, as this data can be used to determine the path-averaged gas concentration between the sensor and points in the measurement scene. Path-averaged gas concentration data is useful for finding and quantifying localized regions of elevated (or anomalous) gas concentration making it ideal for a variety of applications including: oil and gas pipeline monitoring, facility leak and emissions monitoring, and environmental monitoring.

Radar system comprising overlapping transmitter and receiver antennas

A radar system for recording the environment of a motor vehicle includes transmission antennas for emitting transmission signals, receiver antennas for receiving transmission signals reflected by objects in the environment, and a signal processor for processing the received signals. The antennas are planar and are situated on a level surface. Received signals are acquired from different combinations of the transmitter and receiver antennas. In the signal processor, the angular position of objects in a spatial direction R is estimated from the received signals, based on recognition that the received signals from an individual object have different phase positions depending on the angular position of the object in the spatial direction R. Two of the transmitter and receiver antennas overlap in the spatial direction R without coinciding, by special arrangements or configurations of the transmitter and receiver antennas.

Method and Device for Detecting a Neural Response in Neural Measurements

A method is provided for processing a neural measurement obtained in the presence of noise, in order to detect whether a locally evoked neural response is present in the neural measurement. A first neural measurement is obtained from a first sense electrode. A second neural measurement is contemporaneously obtained from a second sense electrode spaced apart from the first electrode along a neural pathway of the neural response. A neural response decay is determined, being a measure of the decay in the neural response from the first sense electrode to the second sense electrode. A ratio of the neural response decay to an amplitude normalising term is calculated. From the ratio it is determined whether a locally evoked neural response is present in the neural measurement.

Systems and methods for improving relevant weather determination

Systems and methods for improving relevant weather determination for aircraft at altitude. An exemplary system includes a weather radar component and memory that stores weather radar data in a three-dimensional (3D) buffer. A processor calculates vertically integrated reflectivity using the stored weather radar data at a predefined reference altitude at one or more locations from the aircraft. The processor then adjusts a lower boundary of a relevant weather envelope from a first value to a second value, if the vertically integrated reflectivity is greater than a predefined threshold. The range of the adjusted lower boundary of the envelope is associated with the weather radar data having the calculated vertically integrated reflectivity greater than the predefined threshold. A display device displays the weather radar data located within the envelope in a first manner and displays the weather radar data located outside of the envelope in a second manner.

Time division protocol for an ad-hoc, peer-to-peer radio network having coordinating channel access to shared parallel data channels with separate reservation channel

A novel protocol for an ad-hoc, peer-to-peer radio network that provides collision-free channel access with an emphasis on improving geographic reuse of the frequency spectrum. The protocol of the invention is executed on the reservation or control channel, and provides a method for allocating data transactions on the data channels. The system of the invention utilizes multiple parallel data channels that are coordinated by a single reservation channel. The transceiver of the system employs two modems to solve the channel reliability issues with multiple channel designs, where one is dedicated as a receive-only modem for gathering channel usage information on the reservation channel. High quality voice, video and data may be transmitted. The reservation channel implements a time division multiple access algorithm with dynamic slot allocation. In a distributed manner, nodes determine geographic reuse of slots based on channel quality extracted from the modem. Signal quality calculations are used to determine the likelihood of a slot reuse causing destructive interference within a node's neighborhood. Requests for slot usage are compared with the known traffic pattern and accepted or rejected by nodes within RF signal range based on the signal quality calculations.
