The method comprises the steps of firstly, implementing a thermegravimetry experiment depending on various components of asphalt to understand graded distribution characteristics of thermal decomposition performances of various components of the asphalt; and respectively optimizing flame retardants matched to thermal decomposition temperature intervals of various components of the asphalt and additive amounts of the flame retardants, so as to realize flame retardation on the level of various components; secondly, depending on contents of various components in the asphalt, primarily designing a flame retardant compounding scheme, investigating flame retardant efficiency of the compound multi-element flame retardant on the asphalt as well as a synergistic effect among various flame retardants, thus optimizing the flame retardant compounding scheme primarily; and finally, evaluating influence of the compound flame retardant on pavement performances of the asphalt and mixture thereof, so as to further optimize the flame retardant compounding scheme and perfecting design of the flame retardant multi-element compounding scheme. The method provided by the invention can realize efficient flame retardation in the full thermal decomposition process of the asphalt, so as to enhance fire safety of an asphalt pavement.
