Glass Processing Method Using Laser and Processing Device

A glass processing method comprising steps (i), (ii) carried out in the order mentioned. In step (i), a laser pulse (11) with a wavelength λ is condensed by a lens and is applied to a glass plate (12) to form an altered portion (13) at the portion, irradiated with a laser pulse (11), of the glass plate (12). In step (ii), the altered portion (13) is etched by using an etchant having an etching rate larger for the altered portion (13) than that for the glass plate (12). The laser beam used includes the following conditions: The pulse width of a laser pulse (11) ranges from ins to 200 ns, with a wavelength λ being up to 535 nm. The absorption coefficient of the glass plate (12) at a wavelength λ is up to 50 cm−1. A value obtained from a lens focal distance L (mm) divided by the beam diameter D (mm) of the laser pulse (11) when entering the lens is at least 7.

Vending machines with field-programmable locks

A vending machine uses a field-programmable electronic lock that learns a key code from a corresponding electronic key, a hand-held program unit, or an external computing device via wireless communications. In one mode, the electronic lock has a learning process activation device that is accessible only when the door of the vending machine is in the open position. In another mode, the electronic lock is programmed in the field without first opening the vending machine. A program command and access control data including a new access code are transmitted wirelessly from a hand-held program unit or the like. Alternatively, an external computing device is used to program the electronic lock via long-range wireless communications, and an electronic key is then used to open the electronic lock to physically access the vending machine.

Reinforcing member for vehicle center pillar

Deformation by camber recovery etc. due to non-uniform residual stress is suppressed, and occurrence of crack and burr is suppressed by improving press forming property of a roof side T-shaped portion, so that a reinforcing member having a predetermined shape accuracy is manufactured easily and inexpensively by pressing. A reinforcing member (12) is constructed by three members, i.e. an upper member (20), a lower member (22) and a central member (24). A tensile strength of the upper member (20) is selected lower than that of the central member (24), and is higher than that of the lower member (22). In comparison to a case where the upper member (20) and the central member (24) are constructed integrally by an ultra-high tensile steel plate, fluctuation of internally generated residual stress is made small. Shape accuracy is thereby improved by the reduced deforming amount due to camber recovery etc., thus press forming being facilitated. Also, a roof side T-shaped portion constructed by the upper member (20) is improved in the drawing property, and the door frame corner portions (30) and (32) are improved in the outer trimming property. Thus, the shape accuracy is improved, and yield and productivity is increased by suppression of crack generation.

Process for Thermal-Mechanical Pretreatment of Biomass

Disclosed is a process for the thermal-mechanical pretreatment of biomass. The process includes subjecting a biomass feedstock including fibers containing cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, to thermal reaction under conditions exceeding atmospheric pressure, at a temperature exceeding ambient temperature, at a predetermined moisture content and for a predetermined amount of time. Subsequently, the pressure of said thermal reaction is reduced under conditions resulting in explosive decompression of said biomass. The decompressed biomass is then subjected to axial shear forces to mechanically reduce the size of the fibers of the biomass to obtain treated biomass. The resultant treated biomass has a high level of enzymatic digestability and a low concentration of degradation products.

Method for fabricating a microfluidic component comprising at least one microchannel filled with nanostructures

A microfluidic component comprises at least one closed microchannel filled with nanostructures. The microchannel is produced by previously forming an opening delineating a bottom wall and two opposite side walls of the microchannel in a surface of a substrate. The nanostructures filling said microchannel are formed by in situ growth to constitute a layer of metallic catalyst deposited on said side walls and on said wall bottom. The microchannel is closed, before the nanostructures are formed, by sealing a protective cover onto said surface of the substrate. Sealing is obtained by formation of an eutectic compound between a material of the cover and the metal of the catalyst used for in situ growth of the nanostructures and deposited on the surface of the substrate designed to come into contact with the cover.

Method for manufacturing semiconductor device

In a double-sided electrode package, a sealing resin layer is formed so as to fill peripheries of surface-side terminals formed on a package substrate. Since the side surfaces of the surface-side terminals have plural protruded rims, adhesion with the sealing resin layer is improved by an anchor effect. At a sealing step, since supplied liquid resin is naturally flowed to form the sealing resin layer, a “mold step” and a “grinding step” may be omitted, and thus the sealing step may be simplified more greatly than a case where the resin sealing is carried out by a transfer molding method.
