A tread (1) for a tire with a preferred rolling direction, the tread having grooves (2) of substantially circumferential orientation which delimit ribs (30, 31, 32, 33, 35), at least one of which is provided close to each of its traverse edges with a plurality of incisions of width smaller than 1.5 mm. The incisions open onto the contact surface of the tread, are essentially parallel to one another, and having a mean inclination alpha different from zero relative to the direction perpendicular to the rolling surface (S) of the tread. Polyethylene fiber and a non-woven fabric using the same

A polyethylene fiber having a high apparent Young's modulus, high breaking tensile strength and low breaking elongation. The fiber also exhibits residual percentage crimp suitable enough for carding, so that the cardability, which has been conventionally difficult to improve, can be remarkably increased. Further, the fiber can be formed into a non-woven fabric having a soft touch feeling such that the fabric is suitable for medical use as well as hygienic use. In addition, the polyethylene fiber of this invention can be mixed with other fibers such as cellulose fiber to obtain a high absorbent fiber network material.

Flexible connecting means, such as vanes, connect the outer convex surface of the inner portion to the concave inner surface of the outer portion. Such an acetabular prosthesis can exhibit matched compliance between the outer portion and the patient's pelvis while the inner portion accommodates idealised rigidity for artificial articulation components.

Space-suit matable enclosure providing workspace for astronauts

An enclosure providing a workspace for astronauts, deep-sea divers, etc. wearing pressurized suits includes a housing providing a substantially-closed chamber, a port providing access to the chamber, and a connector circumscribing the port. The enclosure's connector is configured to mate with, and form an airtight seal with, a complementary connector of the suit to close the chamber. A pressure control system may be provided to pressurize and depressurize the chamber. After connecting the enclosure to the suit, the closed chamber may be pressurized to balance pressures internal and external to the suit to facilitate manual operations. Any mated connectors of suit portions internal to the enclosure may be decoupled to expose a human limb, etc., and yet the pressure in the chamber may be maintained. The suit may include a limb-engaging seal resisting intermixing of chamber gases with suit gases while matable connectors of the suit are decoupled.
