Voice actuation with contextual learning for intelligent machine control

An interactive voice actuated control system for a testing machine such as a tensile testing machine is described. Voice commands are passed through a user-command predictor and integrated with a graphical user interface control panel to allow hands-free operation. The user-command predictor learns operator command patterns on-line and predicts the most likely next action. It assists less experienced operators by recommending the next command, and it adds robustness to the voice command interpreter by verbally asking the operator to repeat unlikely commanded actions. The voice actuated control system applies to industrial machines whose normal operation is characterized by a nonrandom series of commands.

Elastically stretchable fabric force sensor arrays and methods of making

Force or pressure transducer arrays have elastically stretchable electrically conductive polymer threads disposed in parallel rows and columns that contact at intersections thereof a piezoresistive material which has an electrical resistivity which varies inversely with pressure or force exerted thereon to form a matrix array of force or pressure sensor elements. The threads are fixed to a single one or pair of flexible elastically stretchable substrate sheets made of thin sheets of an insulating polymer such as PVC, or for greater elasticity and conformability to irregularly-shaped objects such as human body parts, an elastically stretchable fabric such as LYCRA or SPANDEX. Elastic stretchability of the sensor arrays is optionally enhanced by disposing either or both row and column conductive threads in sinuously curved, serpentine paths rather than straight lines.

Circuit wiring layout in semiconductor memory device and layout method

An improved circuit wiring layout provides smooth circuit wiring in a peripheral circuit region adjacent to a memory cell region of a semiconductor memory device, and eliminates a write-speed limiting factor. Forming a metal (instead of a metal silicided polysilicon) wiring layer to be connected to a gate layer, to transmit an electrical signal to the gates of FET (e.g., MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) transistors formed in the peripheral circuit region; the metal wiring layer is formed (e.g., using one metal damascene process), on a layer different from a word line layer formed on the gate layer (e.g., using another metal damascene process), thereby obtaining a layout of a peripheral circuit region having a reduced area and without using a silicide process.

Health monitoring method for cable system in cable structure

The invention relates to a health monitoring method used for a cable system in a cable structure which carries out a plurality of mechanical calculations based on the mechanical calculation benchmark model of a structure; the calculation times are equal to the quantities of the cables. In each calculation, one cable is supposed to have unit damage; the result for each calculation forms vector for calculating a current cable force; a cable force change vector is obtained by using the vector for calculating the current cable force to subtract an initial cable force vector; all the cable force change vectors form a cable force change identity matrix. The noninferior solution of the current damage vector of the cable can be fast calculated by utilizing proper arithmetic such as multi-target optimizing arithmetic according to the approximating linear relation of the current cable force vector (formed by all the current cable forces that are actually detected), the cable force change identity matrix, a unit damage scalar and the current cable damage vector (formed by all the current damage quantities), thus being capable of more accurately confirming the position and the damage degree of the damaged cable.

Document sensor for currency recycling automated banking machine

An automated banking machine (10) identifies and stores documents such as currency bills deposited by a user. The machine then selectively recovers such documents from storage areas and dispenses them to other users. The machine includes a sheet thickness detector (810) used for distinguishing single sheets from double sheets which pass through the machine. The thickness detector includes a radiation source (822). Radiation from the radiation source is directed by radiation guide (824) to a generally linear elongated radiation outlet (826) which extends transversely to the sheet path. A receiver (814) includes a radiation sensitive element (830) which is also transversely elongated relative to the sheet path. Sheets passing between the emitter and the receiver cause variations in the amount of radiation reaching the receiver. The transversely elongated surface of the sheet through which the transmission of radiation is sense enables accurately distinguishing single sheets from double sheets.
