Mac Learning in a Trill Network

A switch of a data network implements both a bridge and a virtual bridge. In response to receipt of a data frame by the switch from an external link, the switch performs a lookup in a data structure using a source media access control (SMAC) address specified by the data frame. The switch determines if the external link is configured in a link aggregation group (LAG) and if the SMAC address is newly learned. In response to a determination that the external link is configured in a LAG and the SMAC address is newly learned, the switch associates the SMAC with the virtual bridge and communicates the association to a plurality of bridges in the data network.

Traffic Management In A Multi-Channel System

A method, system and computer program product in a downstream line card of a Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) for managing downstream traffic for channels and bonded channel groups is provided herein. The method comprises the step of receiving packets for transmission to cable modems and classifying each packet to a flow based on class of service associated with the packet. The method further includes the step of storing the packets in flow queues based, wherein a flow queue is selected based on a flow a packet is associated with and wherein each flow corresponds to a single flow queue. The method also includes transmitting the packets from the flow queues to channel queues or bonded channel queues using corresponding channel nodes or bonded channel nodes at a rate that is determined based on feedback data and scheduling downstream transmission of packets on a single downstream channel if the packet is stored in a channel queue and on multiple downstream channels that are bonded together to form a bonded channel group if the packet is stored in a bonded channel queue. The feedback data is adjusted for each channel node or bonded channel node based on a queue depth for a corresponding channel queue or bonded channel queue.

Quality of service aware rate throttling of delay tolerant traffic for energy efficient routing

The invention is directed to energy-efficient network processing of delay tolerant data packet traffic. Embodiments of the invention determine if an aggregate of time critical traffic flow rates and minimum rates for meeting QoS requirements of delay tolerant traffic flows exceeds a combined optimal rate of packet processing engines of a network processor. In the affirmative case, embodiments set the processing rate of individual packet processing engines to a minimum rate, such that the cumulative rate of the packet processing engines meets the aggregate rate, and schedule the delay tolerant flows to meet their respective minimum rates. Advantageously, by throttling the processing rate of only delay tolerant traffic, energy consumption of network processors can be reduced while at the same time QoS requirements of the delay tolerant traffic and time critical traffic can be met.

Distributed hot standby links for vLAG

One embodiment of the present invention provides a switch. The switch includes a link aggregation module adapted to establish a virtual link aggregation group comprising a plurality of links coupling a network device to the switch and one or more other switches. The switch also includes an acknowledgment module adapted to identify an acknowledgment of a notification message from each of the one or more other switches, where the notification message includes port information associated with a local link participating in the virtual link aggregation group. The switch further includes a link selection module adapted to, in response to identifying the acknowledgment from each of the one or more other switches, determine a state for the local link based on the port information, where the state indicates whether the local link is an active link or a standby link for the virtual link aggregation group.

System and method for virtual link trunking

A method, an information handling system (IHS), and a virtual link trunking (VLT) system for determining VLT ports to block and unblock in an IHS. The method includes calculating a forwarding table index for a local switch of currently active and inactive switch peers for a VLT port. A pre-determined forwarding table is retrieved from a memory containing a plurality of port blocking and unblocking actions for the switch peers. Current port blocking and unblocking actions are identified in the pre-determined forwarding table corresponding to the forwarding table index. Changes are determined between the previous port blocking and unblocking actions and the current port blocking and unblocking actions. The input / output (I / O) ports are configured for the local switch based on the determined changes in the port blocking and unblocking actions.

Systems and methods for traffic aggregation on multiple wan backhauls and multiple distinct LAN networks

In accordance with embodiments disclosed herein, there are provided methods, systems, mechanisms, techniques, and apparatuses for traffic aggregation on multiple WAN backhauls and multiple distinct LAN networks; for traffic load balancing on multiple WAN backhauls and multiple distinct LAN networks; and for performing self-healing operations utilizing multiple WAN backhauls serving multiple distinct LAN networks. For example, in one embodiment, a first Local Area Network (LAN) access device is to establish a first LAN; a second LAN access device is to establish a second LAN; a first Wide Area Network (WAN) backhaul connection is to provide the first LAN access device with WAN connectivity; a second WAN backhaul connection is to provide the second LAN access device with WAN connectivity; and a traffic aggregation unit is to form a logically bonded WAN interface over the first WAN backhaul and the second WAN backhaul. In some embodiments an optional traffic de-aggregation unit may be used.

Method for scalable distributed network traffic analytics in telco

Exemplary methods for performing distributed data aggregation include receiving Internet Protocol (IP) traffic from only a first portion of the network. The methods further include utilizing a big data tool to generate a summary of the IP traffic from the first portion of the network, wherein a summary of IP traffic from a second portion of the network is generated by a second network device utilizing its local big data tool. The methods include sending the summary of the IP traffic of the first portion of the network to the third network device, causing the third network device to utilize its local big data tool to generate a summary of the IP traffic of the first and second portion of the network based on the summaries received from the first and second network devices, thereby allowing the IP traffic in the network to be characterized in a distributed manner.

Network fieldbus power supply

The invention provides for a network power-supply voltage adaptor arranged to receive an input voltage (V in) from a network trunk cable and to present an internal voltage derived from the said input voltage (V in), the adaptor being arranged, when at least one of the input voltage (V in) or the said internal voltage is above a reference voltage (Ref V), to regulate the received input voltage (V in) to provide an adaptor output dc power supply voltage (V out) at a substantially constant dc power supply level less than that of the input voltage (V in), and independent of changes in the input voltage level (V in), and the adaptor further comprising at least one communication feed-through loop (55, 56, 66, 68) for the passage of substantially unaltered communications signals through the adaptor.
