In a color display device, when using white (W) sub-pixels in addition to subpixels of red (R) and green (G) plus blue (B) without increasing a wiring line number, the per-color pixel number in a unit area decreases so that the image resolution is deteriorated. The area and number of subpixels are adjusted in accordance with the visual sensitivity or luminosity required. Practically, the area of red (R) and blue (B) subpixels which are relatively low in luminosity is set to be about two times greater than the area of green (G) and white (W) subpixels that are relatively high in luminosity while letting the number of green (G) and white (W) subpixels be twice the number of red (R) and blue (B) subpixels. A larger subpixel is configured from a plurality of unit subpixels. A smaller subpixel is formed of a one unit subpixel.

Apparatus and method for assessing retinal damage

The invention administers an objective clinical test to an eye that measures the visual sensitivity of the superior retina and the inferior retina, by alternately presenting a stimulus pair comprising a shaped superior light stimulus and a shaped inferior light stimulus that are horizontal mirror images of one another and have shapes encompassing visual field defects. The shaped superior and inferior light stimuli stimulate pupillary responses whose amplitudes are measured. A cycle-averaged pupillary response balance and a luminance ratio are computed for each presentation of a stimulus pair. A stimulus pair response curve is computed by fitting cycle-averaged pupillary response balances to a sigmoid function of the luminance ratios. A balanced luminance ratio at which the cycle-averaged pupillary response balance is equal to about zero is computed from the sigmoid function. The balanced luminance ratio is indicative of the presence and location of retinal nerve damage.

A Method for Measuring Grid Voltage Flicker

The invention discloses a method for measuring electric network voltage flicker, and discloses a high-accuracy rapid flicker calculating method aiming at a non-integral cycle low sampling rate by taking account of errors probably caused by harmonic waves and electric network frequency. The core of the calculating method is that: a low fixed sampling rate is adopted to perform non-integral cycle sampling on electric network voltage waveforms, a cosine window is used for performing a fast Fourier transform algorithm (FFT), then the flicker frequency component is accurately extracted through a double-spectral line interpolation algorithm and a frequency spectrum searching algorithm, and the instantaneous flicker visual sensitivity is obtained through calculation. By using the method, under the condition of non-integral cycle low sampling rate, the errors caused by frequency spectrum leakage and harmonic wave aliasing are overcome, the frequency resolution is improved, the complexity of flicker calculation is effectively simplified, and a flicker measurement result is acquired quickly. By using the method, the performance requirement of hardware of an analog-digital converter, a processor and the like is reduced, thus the cost of a flicker measuring instrument is reduced, and simultaneously the measuring accuracy is improved; and besides, the method is applicable to fast low-cost measurement of the electric network voltage flicker, and has a very good effect.

Video error concealment mechanism for block based video decompression

Embodiments of the present invention provide methods and apparatus for decoding digital video or motion picture signals with error concealment to prevent or minimize degradation of the picture quality. When corruption occurs, the method determines whether error concealment is needed according to a preset criterion. If so, motion vectors for the corrupt region are calculated using the motion vectors and rates of change of motion of current blocks in the current frame and / or old blocks in a previous frame according to a best matching block selection process. The method also determines if the “time” relative motion of content is small by defining a percentage use parameter. In some cases, once the error concealment is complete, the “weight” or visual sensitivity of the restored block is decreased in order to reduce boundary artifact effects. This is accomplished by a quantization mask employing the human visual system (HVS) concept.

Movie enhancement

A method for enhancing video or other multimedia in order to achieve a closer-to-movie theater viewing experience. The enhancement method can be applied to YUV or other video formats which are used for TV or digital media. The method provides a curve with at least one inflection point such that at least one region has a concave upward arc and another region has a concave downward arc. The improved curve provides relatively less contrast in relatively dark regions and relatively more contrast in relatively bright regions. By taking into account the visual sensitivity to various luminance levels, a neutral point is selected to be located at a relatively dark point. To the darker side of the neutral point, luminance is suppressed. To the brighter side of the neutral point, luminance is enhanced. This luminance-mapping curve is applied to the luminance (Y) signal so as to enhance both brightness and contrast.

Patch forming device

When forming a test chart for investigating output characteristic relating to yellow color agent, a printer outputs yellow color agent in a plurality of densities that correspond to various density levels and also outputs cyan color agent in a fixed and maximum density. Patches in gradations from cyan to green are formed by overlapping the yellow color agent and the cyan color agent. The patches are formed with respect to a surrounding area that is formed by outputting the cyan color agent in the fixed and maximum density. Accordingly, the colors of the patches are easier to distinguish than when the patches are formed from yellow only. Visual calibration can be easily performed even with the yellow color agent that has a low visual sensitivity.
