Providing suitable menu position indicators that predict menu placement of menus having variable positions depending on an availability of display space

The present invention discloses a solution for using menu position indicators to accurately show where an intelligently placed menu will appear. Positioning of menus can automatically vary in the solution depending upon available screen space and an origin point for the menu. A menu position indicator can include a graphical image capable of indicating a direction of the menu appearance, such as an arrow or triangle. The menu position indicator for a menu can change depending upon a position of an origin point and depending upon available screen space for displaying the associated menu. When a position of a main menu changes, calculations can be performed to determine where a submenu of the main menu will be presented, and the menu position indicator can be adjusted accordingly.

Laser Guided and Laser Powered Energy Discharge Device

The present invention relates to a laser guided and powered directed energy weapon that combines two different lasers to accurately and efficiently deliver a high energy electromagnetic pulse (EMP) to a target at long range. The method uses a high energy laser pulse with relatively long pulse duration focused in air to create a plasma ball which emits an intense EMP. Typically the long pulse duration of high energy lasers would severely limit focal accuracy and effective range because of air pressure variations and pollutants in the atmosphere. However the present invention uses a second ultrafast laser to create a long thin optical plasma filament between the variable location of the plasma ball and the target to act as a stable electrical connection or conducting wire. Consequently EMP can be efficiently channeled to the target via the optical filament, thereby dramatically increasing potential accuracy, range and energy delivery efficiency.

Monitoring changeable locations of client devices in wireless networks

Security of wireless networks is improved by rejecting traffic from a wireless device located outside a defined spatial boundary. The device's spatial position with respect to the boundary is determined using directional antenna arrays on a plurality of measurement points, and calculating where the vectors intersect. Having thus determined a device's location, access to a wireless network can be denied if the device is outside a predetermined spatial boundary. Or, the device's location inside or outside of the spatial boundary can be used for monitoring a changeable location of one or more client devices in a wireless network, for example as a theft detection or theft deterrent mechanism.

Automotive Radar Transmitter Architecture

One embodiment of the present invention relates to a radar transmitter comprised within a single integrated chip substrate, which is capable of continuous beam steering of a transmitted radar beam as well as an option to change the physical position of the origin of the transmit radar beam. The radar transmitter has a signal generator that generates an RF signal. The RF signal is provided to a plurality of independent transmission chains, which contain independently operated vector modulators configured to introduce an individual phase adjustment to the high frequency input signal to generate separate RF output signals. A control unit is configured to selectively activate a subset of (e.g., two or more) the independent transmission chains. By activating the subset of independent transmission chains to generate RF output signals with separate phases, a beam steering functionality is enabled. Furthermore, the subset defines a changeable position of the transmitted radar beam.

Control for positioning multiple barriers apparatus and method

A control routine for groups of remotely controlled, variable-position, position-aware, transceiver-equipped actuators manages data discrepancies by issuing a first set of generic actuation commands to start and stop the actuators, then polling the actuators to report their achieved positions. The routine then applies a rule to determine a preferred position value from among the reports and issues a second set of position-specific actuation commands to all of the actuators. The routine can further poll the actuators to confirm the extent to which the commands have been realized, and can retain and apply compensation factors for performance deviations in the individual actuators. The routine can further manage multiple groups of actuators, dissimilar activators within groups, assignment of an actuator to more than one group, and application of variable control factors as inputs modifying the rule applied by the routine for determining the commands to be issued.

Variable position dampers for controlling air flow to multiple modules in a common chassis

An apparatus comprising a chassis providing a plurality of module bays, one or more modules received in the module bays, wherein each module has at least one damper actuator extending from a distal end of the module. A fan assembly and a plurality of air flow dampers are secured in a distal end of the chassis, wherein each damper is aligned with one module bay to control air flow through the aligned module bay. Each damper is biased to close in the absence of contact with a damper actuator and opens in response to contact with a damper actuator. Each damper opens to a variable extent determined by the profile of the contacting damper actuator. The damper actuator of a particular module has a profile corresponding to the thermal load of that module, such that installing a module into the chassis automatically opens the aligned damper to the desired extent.

Position control apparatus and position control method

A position control apparatus and method has been devised which provides for an improved means of suppressing tracking error from a variable position reference occurring when a control object positioned via a transmission mechanism with mechanical transmission error resumes movement from a state stopped at a target position. A selection between two alternative tracking error compensating means within the control apparatus is made based on whether the detected position of the control object changes in a period after the control object stops and before the variable position reference is input again to a control deviation generating unit.
