A mobile crane with a carrier and a superstructure which is slewably arranged thereon has a superlift device with an SL counterweight for increasing lifting capacity. The SL counterweight can be lifted from the ground in order to execute slewing movements of the superstructure and its slewing radius is changeable. The crane has an electronic control device with a computing device and with a display. In order to avoid costly conversion work on the SL counterweight and to increase operating safety, a program is stored in the electronic control device, which program determines a permissible operating field for crane parameters from the parameters comprising load size and load radius, size of SL counterweight and SL counterweight radius while taking into account the stability criteria and capacity criteria of the mobile crane and displays this operating field graphically on the display. Within this operating field, these parameters may be safely changed, the rest of the parameters remaining constant, and the lifting of the SL counterweight from the ground can be ensured.

Method for fully adaptive calibration of a prediction error coder, comprising a first step of initialization; a second step of reception and accumulation of block-size data samples wherein for each received value, it is added one to the histogram bin associated to that value; a third step of analysis of the histogram and determination of the coding option; a fourth step of analysis of the histogram and determination of a coding table; a fifth step of output a header with the prediction error coder coding table determined; and wherein previous steps are repeated if more samples need to be compressed. It is useful as a data compression technique, with the advantage of being faster and more robust than the current CCSDS lossless compression standard.

Method of operating a compression ignition engine

A method of operating a compression ignition engine, which includes at least one combustion chamber containing a piston, and a mechanically operated fuel injection pump apparatus. The method includes sensing the engine operating temperature with a first sensor, and providing input to a controller. The controller operates the fuel injection pump apparatus to deliver fuel to each of the combustion chambers according to a first timing regime when the engine operating temperature is above a threshold temperature, and according to a second, advanced timing, regime when the engine operating temperature is below the threshold temperature. The method further includes sensing the pressure in the combustion chambers with a second sensor. When the controller is operating the fuel injection pump apparatus according to the second timing regime and the combustion chamber pressure exceeds a desired pressure, the method includes changing operation from the second timing regime to the first timing regime.
