The invention relates to a method for reducing rainfall and
snowmelt erosion of low
vegetation covered piedmont slopes of river valleys in
arid regions. According to the method, on the slope environment condition that the slope degree ranges from 3 degrees to 10 degrees, ridges are constructed along a
contour line under the situation that
landform is not changed, water blocking and desilting are conducted, and meanwhile the effects of reducing slope-runoff and slowing down the flow velocity are achieved. Drain outlets made of concrete are constructed at the portions, 50 m away from each other, of each
ridge, flow leakage is convenient when the amount of
snowmelt water is too large in spring, and man-made disasters caused by washing the ridges are prevented. According to differences of demands of lucerne and
lycium chinensis on
moisture,
lycium chinensis is planted in a water collecting area between two ridges, lucerne is planted in the area where water is not collected, the
survival rate of planted plants is increased, and the surface
vegetation coverage and water containing capacity of soil are improved. By means of the method, the purposes of reducing slope-runoff, slowing down the flow velocity, depositing
silt, increasing soil thickness and preventing soil
nutrient loss so as to reduce water and
soil loss of the low
vegetation covered piedmont slopes of which the slope degree ranges form 3 degrees to 10 degrees can be achieved, and control over rainfall and
snowmelt erosion of the low vegetation covered piedmont slopes of the river valleys in the
arid regions is achieved.
