235 results about "Guar" patented technology

The guar or cluster bean, with the botanical name Cyamopsis tetragonoloba, is an annual legume and the source of guar gum. It is also known as gavar, guwar, or guvar bean. The origin of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba is unknown, since it has never been found in the wild. It is assumed to have developed from the African species Cyamopsis senegalensis. It was further domesticated in India and Pakistan, where it has been cultivated for centuries. Guar grows well in semiarid areas, but frequent rainfall is necessary.

Nutritional compostions comprising a soluble viscous fiber in a solid crisp matrix

Disclosed are nutritional compositions having a solid crisp matrix, or a flour derived from the solid crisp matrix, said matrix comprising (A) from about 10% to about 50% by weight of a soluble viscous fiber, preferably guar; (B) from about 10% to about 99% by weight of a carbohydrate other than and in addition to the soluble viscous fiber; and (C) from about 1% to about 49% by weight of protein, wherein the matrix has a bulk density of less than about 0.4 g / cc. It has been found that soluble viscous fiber sources such as guar gum can be formulated into a solid crisp matrix, which then minimizes several limitations commonly associated with the formulation of such fiber sources into a conventional nutrition bar, e.g. slimy mouthfeel, tooth packing. These compositions are especially effective when formulated with gelled inclusions, including those containing or associated with acidulants, sour flavorants, or both. The nutritional compositions are especially useful as satiety agents, weight reduction agents, and / or for blunting the postprandial glycemic response in diabetics or other individuals in whom such a response would be beneficial.

InactiveUS6537584B1Improve propertiesControlling the swelling and/or deswelling behaviorBiocidePowder deliveryChemical structurePolymer dissolution
A polymer blend is prepared by dissolving chitosan and a second polymer in an acidic aqueous solution to form an aqueous polymer blend, dehydrating said aqueous polymer blend, and recovering said polymer blend. The second polymer may be selected from the group consisting of polyether glycols including polyethylene glycols; cellulose esters including cellulose acetate; poloxamers; polysaccharides including dextran and guar; polyvinylpyrrolidones; polyvinyl alcohols; and mixtures or copolymers thereof. These polymer blends swell in an acidic environment and deswell in a more neutral or basic environment. This technology is valuable for the dispensing of biologically active material or drugs into a surrounding environment, especially the environment as is found in the gastrointestinal tract. Since the various polymer blends of the present invention are not covalently or ionically crosslinked, but are physically combined, each polymer in the physical blend maintains its original chemical structure, and therefore, is safe for oral administration.

Conjugated polysaccharide fabric detergent and conditioning products

A polysaccharide conjugate comprises a polysaccharide with an attached entity having a molecular weight of at least 5000, the polysaccharide conjugate being capable of binding to cellulose. Preferred polysaccharides include tamarind seed xyloglucan, locust bean gum and enzyme modified guar. The attached entity is suitably a protein such as an enzyme, antibody or antibody fragment, or a particle possibly having a benefit agent such as a fragrance associated therewith. Because the polysaccharide conjugate binds to cellulose, which is present in cotton and other fabrics, paper, etc., binding of the conjugate to cellulose brings the attached entity into close proximity to a surface of or containing cellulose. The invention thus enables targeting of attached entities to such surfaces. The invention also provides a product incorporating the polysaccharide conjugate of the invention. The product is conveniently a laundry product such as a fabric washing product, e.g. a detergent product, or a fabric conditioning product. In this case the attached entity may be an enzyme, a particle bearing fragrance, etc. The invention also provides a method of targeting binding of an entity to cellulose by use of the polysaccharide conjugate of the invention.

Stabilizing crosslinked polymer guars and modified guar derivatives

An aqueous, viscoelastic treating fluid gelled with a crosslinked guar or guar derivative is stabilized and improved with an effective amount of a glycol, such as ethylene glycol. These fluids are more stable in that viscosity is maintained, particularly at elevated temperatures. The additives may also increase viscosity to the point where less of a crosslinked guar or guar derivative gelling agent is required to maintain a given viscosity. These stabilized, enhanced, aqueous, viscoelastic fluids may be used as treatment fluids for subterranean hydrocarbon formations, such as in hydraulic fracturing.
