Automated object dimensioning system employing contour tracing, vertice detection, and forner point detection and reduction methods on 2-d range data maps

A fully automated package identification and measuring system, in which an omni-directional holographic scanning tunnel is used to read bar codes on packages entering the tunnel, while a package dimensioning subsystem is used to capture information about the package prior to entry into the tunnel. Mathematical models are created on a real-time basis for the geometry of the package and the position of the laser scanning beam used to read the bar code symbol thereon. The mathematical models are analyzed to determine if collected and queued package identification data is spatially and / or temporally correlated with package measurement data using vector-based ray-tracing methods, homogeneous transformations, and object-oriented decision logic so as to enable simultaneous tracking of multiple packages being transported through the scanning tunnel.

This invention relates to a compression garment (10) for clothing a body part including a lower body part of a wearer. The compression garment has a first panel (12) of stretchable material joined to a second panel (14) of stretchable material by a first seam (16). The stretchable material of the second panel (14) has a higher stretch and recovery characteristic compared to the stretchable material of the first panel (12). In use, the first panel (12) of stretchable material is adapted to support a larger, more powerful muscle group than the second panel (14). The second panel (14) is joined to a third panel or the first panel (12) by a second seam (18). The second panel (14) is adapted in use to be located along a substantial part of the illiotibial band of the wearer.

Turbo blood pump

A turbo blood pump having a small size, that is, a small amount of blood to be filled and capable of adjusting and maintaining the slight amount of flow, and a turbo blood pump in which hemolysis is not likely to occur even if it is used at a practically high rotational speed necessary to obtain a predetermined discharging ability. The turbo blood pump to be used includes a housing having an inlet port and an outlet port; and an impeller disposed rotatably in the housing; wherein the impeller includes at least a rotation shaft and an annular connection portion to which the plural vanes are attached. The vane is manufactured so that an inlet side part is in the skew position with respect to an outlet side part.

Variable compression ratio internal combustion engine

InactiveUS20080053420A1Avoid deformationDeterioration in fuel economy can be preventedCylinder headsCombustion enginesEngineeringCrankcase
An internal combustion engine includes a variable compression ratio mechanism made up of a case-side bearing-forming portion, a block-side bearing-forming portion, and a shaft-shaped drive portion. The case-side bearing-forming portion is formed in an upper portion of a crankcase. The block-side bearing-forming portion extends outward from a lower end portion of an outer wall surface of the cylinder block. The block-side bearing-forming portion is linked to the case-side bearing-forming portion by the shaft-shaped drive portion. Slit-shaped stress reduction groove portions each having an opening in a region between the block-side bearing-forming portion and cylinder bores are formed in a lower surface of the cylinder block. Therefore, even when the block-side bearing-forming portion presses the outer wall surface, the stress reduction groove portions reduce the stress, so that the deformation of the wall surface of each cylinder bore can be restrained.

Universal food-holding receptacle for use with beverage containers of diverse shapes and sizes

This invention provides an aid for dining in stand-up and similar situations where a person must simultaneously support a plate or other such receptacle and a beverage container by a single hand. The invention comprises a universal food holding receptacle that is stably mountable (directly or by means of a connector unit) on upright beverage containers of widely diverse shapes and sizes, taken one beverage container at a time. The user holds a lower portion of the beverage container in one hand and uses the other hand for other activities such as taking food items from the food holding receptacle that is supported on the beverage container. In order to drink from the beverage container the user removes the plate from the beverage container and drinks from the beverage container in the normal way. The food holding receptacle is stably mounted on the beverage container in loose-fitting relationship so that the receptacle can be repeatedly mounted on and demounted from the beverage container in a facile manner. The food holding receptacle of the present invention may also be used to stably support beverage containers of diverse shapes and sizes, taken one beverage container at a time. In this mode of operation, the user grasps the food holding receptacle, with the upright beverage container supported on the receptacle. This leaves the user's other hand free to take food items from the receptacle or for other purposes. In order to drink from the beverage container in this mode of usage the user removes the beverage container from the receptacle and drinks from the beverage container in the normal way.
