Method for operating a radar system

In a method for operating a radar system, the object is to determine by simple means and at low cost the distance and/or the radial velocity of at least one target object with high resolution. For this purpose, in each measuring phase of the measurement process in the "pulse FMCW radar system", switchover between a transmission mode and a receiving mode is effected a multiple number of times and at short intervals of time. In the transmission mode, all receiving units of the radar system are switched off, while a pulse-shaped (frequency-modulated) transmission signal with time-successive transmission pulses having a specific pulse-on time and a specific carrier frequency is emitted from at least one transmitter unit of the radar system. In receiving mode, all transmitter units are switched off in the pulse-off times of the transmission pulses, while from at least one receiver unit all reflection signals originating from the last emitted transmission pulse are detected as received signal from the entire observation range before emission of the next transmission pulse. The distance and/or the radial velocity of the reflection objects is determined indirectly by the signal processing unit of the radar system by evaluation of the frequency difference and/or phase difference between the transmission signal and the received signal.

Alignment method, imprint method, alignment apparatus, and position measurement method

In an alignment method for effecting alignment between two plate-like objects, a first plate-like object provided with a first alignment mark and a second plate-like object provide with a second alignment mark are disposed opposite to each other. A first area and a second area are provided at mutually nonoverlapping positions in an image pickup area for being observed through an image pickup device. Images of the first and second alignment marks are picked up by the image pickup device from a direction substantially perpendicular to an in-plane direction of the first and second plate-like objects. Alignment control is effected by using first information about a deviation of the first alignment mark from a predetermined position in the first area and second information about a deviation of the second alignment mark from a predetermined position in the second area.

This invention relates to coherent laser range finder which can obtain target position information and its method of measuring distance. This cohere laser range finder uses continuous wave and cohere detection system. System includes transmitter and receiver. Transmitter is constructed of launching laser device, light modulator, launching optical system. Receiver is constructed of receiving optical system, local oscillator laser device, light bridging device, photo detector, phase locked loop, CCD pick-up camera and interference image manipulation software. Receiver gets transmission distance information by cohere detection, meanwhile uses backward wave and local oscillator light wave to get interference figure on the CCD pick-up camera, obtains target position information and target distance information by computer image processing and analysis, real-time controls machine electricity part of optical system, ensures launching telescope and receiving telescope of rangefinder to aim at target. This invention can implement cohere laser measuring distance of consummate function, largest measuring distance. This invention can be used for cohere laser correspondence.

Traffic sensing and monitoring apparatus (100) comprises a length of optical fiber (112), means (102, 103, 104, 106, 107, 109, 119) arranged to introduce a series of pulse pairs into an input end of the length, each of the pulse pairs comprising first and second pulses of radiation having a frequency difference Ω and the second pulse being delayed with respect to the first by a delay τ, and the apparatus further comprising a photodetector arranged to detect radiation which is Rayleigh-backscattered within the length of fiber towards the input end to generate an output signal in response thereto. Apparatus of the invention allows sensing and monitoring of traffic at any position along a long length of road (e.g. 5 km) with lower installation and maintenance costs per unit length compared to prior art systems providing the same spatial resolution.
