A canal hearing device with a dual acoustic seal system for preventing feedback while minimizing occlusion effects. The two-part device comprises a main module and an elongated tubular insert for conducting sound to the tympanic membrane and sealing within the bony region of the ear canal. The main module is positioned in the cartilaginous portion of the ear canal. The tubular insert comprises a sound conduction tube and a cylindrically hollow primary seal medially positioned in the bony region. The device also comprises a secondary seal laterally positioned in the cartilaginous region. The secondary seal, although providing additional acoustic sealing for the prevention of feedback, is sufficiently vented to provide a path of least acoustic resistance for occlusion sounds within the ear canal. In a preferred embodiment, the tubular insert comprises a coiled skeletal frame to provide high radial flexibility while maintaining sufficient axial rigidity for comfortable, kink-resistant, and consistent placement within the ear canal.

An inventive earpiece auditory device is provided. In one embodiment, the earpiece auditory device includes a behind-the-ear component, the behind-the-ear component preferably being shaped to fit behind an ear of a user. In some embodiments, the behind-the-ear component includes a module that includes processing circuitry. In a preferred embodiment, the earpiece auditory device also includes a completely-in-canal component, the completely-in-canal component preferably being shaped to fit into the ear canal of the user in such a manner as to touch the bony portion of the ear canal of the user. In some embodiments, the completely-in-canal component includes an ear mold. Moreover, in one embodiment, the earpiece auditory device includes a connector physically coupling the behind-the-ear component to the completely-in-canal component. In a preferred embodiment, the connector includes at least one end detachably coupled to the behind-the-ear component or the completely-in-canal component.

An earpiece auditory device is described which includes a behind-the-ear component shaped to fit behind the ear of a user. A bowstring release includes a handle, a bowstring catch, and a link between the handle and catch. The catch includes a hook for retaining the bowstring, and a cam for holding and releasing the hook. The handle is initially rotatably mounted with respect to the link, so as the bowstring is drawn, the cam will retain the hook to hold the bowstring regardless of handle position. A method to reduce acoustic coupling in an audio conferencing system having a loudspeaker and a plurality of microphones, comprising detecting the presence of one of either a source of near-end signal or a source of far-end signal source relative to the audio conferencing system, and in the event of detecting a source of near-end signal then processing the near-end signal with high directivity towards the near-end source, and in the event of detecting a source of far-end signal or double-talk then processing the far-end signal with high coupling characteristics between the loudspeaker and microphones.

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for applying successive multi-rank beamforming strategies (e.g., successive preceding strategies) for the design of precoders over a set of parallel channels. Successive beamforming is applied to a narrow band channel model and is also applied for finer quantization of a single beamforming vector (e.g., recursive beamforming). A first embodiment provides the optimal approach with high complexity. An alternative embodiment provides successive beamforming for near optimal preceding selection with medium complexity. A low complexity method for precoder selection is also provided wherein a channel representative matrix for the set of parallel channels is determined and successive beamforming on the calculated channel representative is applied.

A solid state laser module for amplification of laser radiation. The module includes a laser gain medium having a pair of generally parallel surfaces that form a disc-like shape, that receive and transmit laser radiation.
