Credential caching for clustered storage systems

A technique efficiently transmits credentials between network elements and disk elements in a clustered storage system. According to the novel technique, in response to a user request to access data served by a data element, a network element inserts (adds) a credential associated with the user to a network element credential cache and creates a corresponding credential handle that indexes the credential in that cache. The network element relays the credential and credential handle to the disk element, which adds the credential to a corresponding disk element credential cache at a location indexed by the corresponding credential handle. Requests may then be sent between the elements using the credential handle. In addition, the network element may further send a series of chained requests to the disk element for the same credential / credential handle with an indication that the requests are for the same credential without sending the credential or credential handle.

Two-photon, three-or four-dimensional, color radiation memory

InactiveUS6483735B1Large storageEasy to getNanoinformaticsRecording involving hole burningDetector arrayPrism
Three-, and four-dimensional ("3-D" and "4-D") volume radiation memories store multiple binary bits of information-typically about five to ten and more typically eight such bits-in the same physical volumes on several different photochromic chemicals co-located in the volume. Each of the multiple photochromic chemicals is individually selectively written with an individually associated pair of radiation beams of an appropriate combined frequency-i.e., a "color"-and energy by a process of two-photon ("2-P") absorption. All the multiple information bits that are stored within all the photochromic chemicals in each addressable domain are read in common, and induced to simultaneously fluoresce, again by process of 2-P absorption. The fluorescence of each of different photochromic chemical in each addressed domain-which fluorescence is selective in accordance with the written state of each such photochromic chemical-is separated from, and is separately detected from, the fluorescence of all other photochromic chemicals because it is of a unique color, and is spatially steered to an associated detector array, normally a Charge Coupled Device (CCD), by a monochromator, normally a prism. Exemplary fluorescent photochromic chemicals are spirobenzopyran, rhodamine, cumarin and anthracene. Suitable groups of photochromic chemicals are formed from individual photochromic chemicals exhibiting narrow, sharp, separate spectra of absorption and of emission suitably distinct from each other, and where no chemical's fluorescent emission energy overlaps the absorption energies of any other chemicals.

PCC (Large Diameter Pipe Pile by using Cast-in-place Concrete) energy pile and manufacturing method thereof

The invention discloses a PCC (Large Diameter Pipe Pile by using Cast-in-place Concrete) energy pile. The PCC energy pile comprises a PCC pile, a heat conducting liquid, a cover plate, a bottom plate, a heat conducting pipe, a heat collecting device and an inspection channel, wherein the bottom of the PCC pile is fully closed; a cover plate with holes is arranged at the top of the PCC pile; prepared holes are formed in one side at the upper part of the PCC pile; the heat conducting liquid is filled up in a cavity in the PCC pile; the heat conducting pipe penetrates through the holes in the cover plate and extends into the heat conducting liquid in the cavity in the PCC pile; the heat conducting pipe extending into the cavity in the PCC pile can adopt opened and closed modes; the inspection channel is formed in the side wall of the PCC pile; and the heat conducting pipe is led out of the cavity in the PCC pile through the holes in the cover plate or the inspection channel and connected with the heat collecting device to form a circulating channel of the heat conducting liquid. The invention further discloses a manufacturing method for the pile. The manufacturing method comprises the technical steps as follows: pouring the PCC pile; excavating pile core soil; making a bottom plate; mounting the heat conducting pipe and the cover plate; filling the heat conducting liquid; and starting a ground heat pump for forming a loop. The PCC energy pile is convenient to overhaul and maintain, wide in application range and low in construction cost, does not influence the bearing capacity, and is an economic, efficient, energy-saving and emission-reducing pile.

Articles and devices for thermal energy storage and methods thereof

The present invention relates to articles and heat storage devices for storage of thermal energy. The articles include a metal base sheet and a metal cover sheet, wherein the metal base sheet and the metal cover sheet are sealingly joined to form one or more sealed spaces. The articles include a thermal energy storage material that is contained within the sealed spaces. The sealed spaces preferably are substantially free of water or includes liquid water at a concentration of about 1 percent by volume or less at a temperature of about 25° C., based on the total volume of the sealed spaces. The articles include one or more of the following features: a) the pressure in a sealed space is about 700 Torr or less, when the temperature of the thermal energy storage material is about 25° C.; b) the metal cover sheet includes one or more stiffening features, wherein the stiffening features include indents into the sealed space, protrusions out of the sealed space, or both, that are sufficient in size and number to reduce the maximum von Mises stress in the cover sheet during thermal cycling; c) the metal cover sheet and / or the metal base sheet includes one or more volume expansion features; or d) the metal cover sheet has a thickness, tc, and the metal base sheet has a thickness, tb, wherein tc is greater than tb; so that the article is durable. For example, the article does not leak after thermal cycling between about 25° C. and about 240° C., for 1,000 cycles.

Multi-purpose storage table

A storage table 2 is composed of a cabinet 10 open to the front side of the image forming apparatus 1, and a tray 11 able to move into and out of the cabinet 10. The tray 11 includes a base plate 15 and a front cover 16. The base plate 26 is a flat part installed so that the base plate 26 can freely slide in and out of the cabinet 10 by the guide rails 13. The front cover 16 is assembled at a front end along an in-and-out direction of the base plate 26. The front cover 16 is integrally formed with a size covering the whole opening of the cabinet 10. The double-deck paper-loading unit 20 mounted on the storage table 2 has an upper tray 21 loaded on a lower tray 22, so that the lower tray 21 can move into and out of the cabinet 10 and the lower tray 21 is detachable to the base plate for altering the function of the storage table. The structure can be recombined to correspond to various functions, such as the storage of supplies, double-deck paper loading, tandem paper-loading etc, all using only one storage table, and so the cost can become cheaper.
