Power saving automatic zoned dryer apparatus and method

A computer controlled power saving automatic zoned dryer for a printing press has a dryer head facing the substrate travel path, having a multiplicity of IR lamps connected individually or in groups to form a plurality of heating zones running longitudinally and each extending laterally side by side across the substrate travel path. The radiant heat output of each heating zone is controlled separately by means of a control unit connected to a power supply. The control unit individually regulates output of the heating zones. Unneeded zones are turned off to reduce cost of power and conserve energy. A plurality of heat sensors spaced laterally across the substrate path measure the surface temperature of substrate heated areas corresponding to the heating zones being operated and maintain an automatic set point temperature. The temperature of each individual heated area can be regulated automatically by adjusting the output of its heating zone whereby printed substrates having a more even temperature profile are delivered. In an alternate manual mode any zone can be set independently to operate at any percentage of full available power from zero to 100%. Separate high velocity air scrubbers and additional air extraction are used to enhance the total drying effect of the zoned dryer assembly.

Method of handoff at the border between CDMA underlay and overlay systems

To avoid interference with the reverse link of a base station within an underlay area, a described method determines when to redirect and handover a mobile terminal that is still communicating on an adjacent carrier with a border base station within an overlay area but is within the coverage area of the base station in the underlay area. The method determines that redirection and handover to the base station in the underlay area should occur when together: (1) the power being received on the downlink from the base station in the underlay area exceeds the power being received on the downlink from the border base station within the overlay area by a first predetermined threshold that indicates that the mobile terminal is at the border of the overlay area; and (2) the sum of the power being received on the downlink from the underlay base station plus the power of the signal being transmitted by the mobile terminal to the base station within the overlay area is greater than a second predetermined threshold that indicates that the power being received by the base station in the underlay area from the transmitting mobile terminal can interfere with the operation of that base station.

Noise suppressor for firearms

A firearm includes a noise suppressor comprising ports in the barrel opening into an annulus provided between a barrel and a sleeve extending from adjacent the muzzle to adjacent the receiver. In the annulus are a series of baffles. The most upstream port opens upstream of the most upstream baffle and downstream ports open between adjacent baffles. In some embodiments, the upstream ports are considerably larger than the downstream ports. Propulsion gases escape from the barrel into the annulus before the projectile clears the muzzle. Sabot rounds or shotgun rounds can be safely fired in the weapon because the sabot carrier or shot cup don't begin to expand until it is past the muzzle end so it cannot damage the noise suppressor.

Logically partitioned processing system having hypervisor for creating a new translation table in response to OS request to directly access the non-assignable resource

A method, apparatus, and system for preventing each of a plurality of operating system within a logically partitioned data processing system from interfering with the operation of the other operating systems is provided. In one embodiment, a logically partitioned data processing system includes a plurality of logical partitions; a plurality of operating systems, a plurality of assignable resources, at least one non-assignable resource, and a hypervisor. Each of the plurality of operating systems is assigned to a separate one of the plurality of logical partitions and each of the plurality of assignable resources is assigned to one of the plurality of logical partitions. The hypervisor provides a set of services to each of the plurality of logical partitions, wherein these services safely perform modifications to non-assignable processing system resources in response to operating system requests without allowing direct access to the non-assignable resources by the operating system image. Thus, each operating system is prevented from modifying the non-assignable resource in such a way that interferes with the operation of other ones of the plurality of operating systems.

Dual bipolar magnetic field for rotary high-voltage contactor in automotive lithium-ion battery systems

A device and method for operating automotive battery system relays and related switches. By aligning a magnetic field with a direction of current flow in a contact plate disposed between magnets that are producing the field, a generated Lorentz force can be used to promote arc extinguishing during a relay opening sequence, while simultaneously reducing the tendency of the Lorentz forces to interfere with the operation of a solenoid or other switch-activating mechanisms. By using a rotary-based mechanism to establish contact between a contact plate and current-carrying terminals, the likelihood of inadvertent opening of the relay is reduced. Such devices and methods may be used in conjunction with hybrid-powered and electric-powered vehicles.

In a catheter device and a method for in vivo activation of a photosensitizing drug in a vessel, endovascular tissue, and / or intraluminal tissue, a catheter carrying both an optical coherence tomography (OCT) lens, from which OCT imaging light is emitted, and a photodynamic therapy (PDT) lens from which photosensitizing drug-activating light is emitted, is inserted into a vessel containing a lesion to be treated. A photosensitizing drug is caused to be placed in the vessel as well, such as in the form of a coating on a stent or a coating on an exterior of a balloon carried by the catheter. Light is emitted from the PDT lens to activate the photosensitizing drug while light is simultaneously emitted from the OCT lens to obtain an OCT image to monitor the drug activation.

A selectively releasable ground securing device that includes a ground member, a clamp body, and a lock assembly that selectively cooperates with the ground member to secure the clamp body relative thereto. The ground member includes a drivable body that is constructed to be driven into a ground surface such that the ground member is generally flush with the upper layer of the ground surface. The lock assembly selectively cooperates with the ground member to secure the clamp body and structure engaged therewith relative to the ground member. In a preferred embodiment, the clamp body cooperates with a rail of a goal assembly to prevent tipping or movement of the goal assembly when the lock assembly is engaged with the ground member.

Methods and apparatus for grounding a circuit board

A grounding member support forms an interference or friction fit with an opening defined by a circuit board. A compliant, electrically conductive grounding member couples to the grounding member support. The grounding member electrically couples a grounding layer of the circuit board with a support mount coupled to the circuit board. During assembly, insertion of the grounding member support within the opening defined by the circuit board creates an expansive or lateral force on the opening. Furthermore, during assembly, the support mount compresses the compliant, electrically conductive grounding member against the circuit board. The interference fit between the grounding member support and the opening along with compression of the grounding member between the circuit board and the support mount limits the amount of stress received by a surface of the circuit board. Such limitation of stress, in turn, limits potential damage to components mounted to the circuit board or to conductive layers within the circuit board.

Internal combustion engine system and control method of internal combustion engine system

Under the condition that a catalyst temperature Tc of a purification catalyst reaches or exceeds a preset reference temperature Tcref, when a cooling water temperature Tw of an engine is not lower than a preset reference temperature Twref, the internal combustion engine system of the invention sets a target exhaust recirculation rate EGR* based on a given rotation speed Ne of the engine and a given load factor KL and performs exhaust recirculation control to open an EGR valve at a specific angle or opening corresponding to the set target exhaust recirculation rate EGR*. When the cooling water temperature Tw is lower than the preset reference temperature Twref, on the other hand, the internal combustion engine system of the invention sets a fuel increment amount α based on the given rotation speed Ne of the engine and the given load factor KL and performs fuel increment control to increase the specific amount of fuel, which is set relative to the amount of intake air to attain the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio as a value to be injected from a fuel injection valve, by the set fuel increment amount α. This arrangement effectively prevents overheat of the purification catalyst while minimizing the deterioration of fuel consumption.
