Impedance based devices and methods for use in assays

A device for detecting cells and / or molecules on an electrode surface is disclosed. The device detects cells and / or molecules through measurement of impedence changes resulting from the cells and / or molecules. A disclosed embodiment of the device includes a substrate having two opposing ends along a longitudinal axis. A plurality of electrode arrays are positioned on the substrate. Each electrode array includes at least two electrodes, and each electrode is separated from at least one adjacent electrode in the electrode array by an expanse of non-conductive material. The electrode has a width at its widest point of more than about 1.5 and less than about 10 times the width of the expanse of non-conductive material. The device also includes electrically conductive traces extending substantially longitudinally to one of the two opposing ends of the substrate without intersecting another trace. Each trace is in electrical communication with at least one of the electrode arrays.

An integrated high-frequency generator system utilizing the magnetic field of the target application including a magnetic resonance magnet having an application zone and a high-frequency (microwave / terahertz) generator zone in the magnetic field of the magnetic resonance magnet; and a high-frequency (microwave / terahertz) generator disposed in the high-frequency (microwave / terahertz) generator zone and utilizing the magnet field of the magnetic resonance magnet to generate the high-frequency (microwave / terahertz) radiation. The magnetic resonance magnet may have an auxiliary magnetic field source for modifying the magnetic field profile in the high-frequency (microwave / terahertz) generator zone. The high-frequency (microwave / terahertz) generator may include an electron gun for generating an electron beam adapted to be focused by a magnetic field source having a spatially rising region, a homogenous region and a decaying region, an interaction structure for generating high-frequency (microwave / terahertz) radiation, an internal mode converter in the homogenous region for extracting the high-frequency (microwave / terahertz) radiation through a window, and a reduced collector disposed substantially in the homogenous region before the electron beam spreads in the decaying region.

Autofocus actuator

An autofocus actuator 1 is provided with a yoke 300 that comprises an inner cylindrical portion 301 defining an insertion bore through which a hollow body portion of a holder is adapted to be received and an outer cylindrical portion 302 provided outside of the inner cylindrical portion 301 with a predetermined spacing left between the inner cylindrical portion 301 and the outer cylindrical portion 302 by a connecting portion, and the yoke 300 is constructed so as to receive a coil 20 in the space of a predetermined gap. The outer cylindrical portion 302 is formed into a generally polygonal cylindrical shape and inner surfaces of the outer cylindrical portion 302 define a plurality of magnet mounting surfaces each having a planar shape. A generally flat plate shape permanent magnet 41 is mounted on each of these magnet mounting surfaces 303. By the use of such a flat plate shape permanent magnet 41, it becomes possible to reduce a manufacturing cost and also possible to easily align and assemble the permanent magnets 41.

Bone fixation plate

ActiveUS20050234455A1Increases magnitudeSmall resistance forceFastenersBone drill guidesBony TissuesSmall patellae
An apparatus for reducing the profile of a bone fixation plate while preventing backing out of screws is disclosed. The apparatus includes at least one section of relief and sections of engagement. The plate has at least two openings though which two screws can pass through bony tissue. As the screw is tightened, it will begin to lag the plate to the bone. When the screw head interferes with the plate at the interference point, there is a slight resistance that insertion forces can overcome. When the screw is advanced further, it snaps into the sliding fit area and is allowed to move freely. The forces that cause the screw to back out from the plate are preferably not strong enough to pass the screw head back past the interference section. It may be desirable to include a set screw to help prevent backout.

A system for controlling operation of a computer. The system includes, a sensing apparatus configured to obtain positional data of a sensed object controllable by a first user, such positional data varying in response to movement of the sensed object, and engine software operatively coupled with the sensing apparatus and configured to produce control commands based on the positional data, the control commands being operable to control, in a multi-user software application executable on the computer, presentation of a virtual representation of the sensed object in a virtual environment shared by the first user and a second user, the virtual representation of the sensed object being perceivable by the second user in a rendered scene of the virtual environment, where the engine software is configured so that the movement of the sensed object produces control commands which cause corresponding scaled movement of the virtual representation of the sensed object in the rendered scene that is perceivable by the second user.

Ice maker with adaptive fill

An icemaker assembly includes an ice tray having an ice forming compartment, a water line configured to advance water from a water source to the ice tray, a valve operable to selectively block advancement of water through the water line while an actuation signal is generated, a control system operable to generate the actuation signal for a water advancement period, a water level detection system for determining if a level of water in the ice forming compartment is below a threshold value and generating a control signal in response thereto. The control system is further operable to alter a magnitude of the water advancement period in response to generation of the control signal. Water is initially advanced into the ice forming compartment for a first period of time during a first ice making cycle by opening the valve. If it is determined that the level of water in the ice forming compartment is below a threshold value during the first ice making cycle, a control signal is generated in response thereto and during a second ice making period the valve is opened for a second period of time in response to generation of the control signal so that water advances into the ice forming compartment of said ice tray through the valve during said second ice making cycle for a period of time that is greater than the first period of time.
