Articles of Apparel Providing Enhanced Body Position Feedback

Articles of apparel include: (a) a garment structure having one or more fabric elements structured and arranged to provide a close fit to at least one predetermined portion of a body (e.g., area(s) of the body for which enhanced position sensing and / or feedback are desired, such as the lower back, the arch of the foot, etc.); and (b) a body position feedback system engaged with or integrally formed as part of the garment structure. The body position feedback system may apply higher tensile or constricting (compressive) forces to selected portions of the wearer's body, which can help stimulate or interact with nerves and deep tissue receptors located in various portions of the body. The increased forces at selected locations of the body give the wearer sensory feedback regarding the position or orientation of these parts of the body and can improve or accelerate development of “muscle memory.”

An anti-entrapment system for preventing an object from being entrapped by a translating device includes a capacitance sensor positioned adjacent to the translating device. The sensor has first and second conductors separated by a separation distance, a compressible dielectric element interposed between the conductors, and a non-conductive elastomer outer jacket encasing the conductors and the dielectric element. The sensor having a capacitance dependent upon the separation distance between the conductors. The capacitance changes in response to the separation distance changing as a result of the dielectric element compressing in response to a first object touching the outer jacket, and in response to a second conductive object coming into proximity with at least one of the conductors. A controller controls the translating device as a function of the capacitance in order to prevent the translating device from entrapping either object.

Process for recycling fiber material and binder with novel injection mold and parts made thereby

A process of recycling fibrous materials, specifically carpet and diaper remnants, or high melting polymers, specifically PET, by using low melting polymers, i.e. agricultural film and other products made from polypropylene and polyethylene, to create parts of high compressive strength. The carpet, fibrous materials, or PET and low melting polymers are ground separately and then blended in a predetermined ratio. The blend is then sent through a pellet mill and then heated until the low melt polymer is melted, or approximately 450° F. The melted mixture is then injected into a partially opened cavity mold, which is then closed without allowing the excess material to escape. Closing the mold increases the internal pressure on the molten material. The cavity mold is then rapidly cooled.

High density card retention device

A two-part, high-density card retention system includes a tapered channel in a chassis or housing and a mating wedge that runs the length of the housing, with the lead wedge being cammed towards a flat channel surface by drawing the wedge inwardly and locating the edge of the board to be mounted between the wedge and the opposing straight channel wall. The mounting provides continuous high-pressure contact between the board and the straight channel wall for maximal thermal transfer and robust anti-vibration and anti-shock mounting of the board to the chassis. Because no additional assemblies are mounted to the edge of the board, the boards may be spaced apart by a fine pitch, thus to minimize the size of the module into which the boards are mounted.

Method and apparatus for power outlet and plug having low-insertion-force connector

In some embodiments, the present invention provides an independently tightening collet surrounding each socket for each of a plurality of corresponding high-electrical-power prongs, wherein the collet is loosened for normal (low-insertion-force) insertion and withdrawal of the plug from the outlet. Once the plug is inserted, the collet is tightened, providing a high-contact force to lower the contact resistance and to help keep the plug from coming unplugged. In some embodiments, the plug is not “locked”, in that a tension force pulling on the plug will overcome the contact force at a point before the plug or outlet is damaged, and the plug is allowed to come unplugged. In some embodiments, engaging the collet will also provide a wiping or sliding motion between the prong and socket for each connection, thus wiping at least some dirt or corrosion away and providing a lower-resistance better electrical contact.

Hollow fan blade for gas turbine engine

A hollow fan blade for a gas turbine engine provides improved resistance to buckling without adding wall thickness. The hollow fan blade includes a pressure side wall and a suction side wall separated and supported by ribs. In the present invention, each wall segment between each adjacent pair of ribs is straight, not curved. At least some of the adjacent walls segments extend at non-parallel angles relative to one another to form the airfoil shape to the hollow fan blade. The resulting fan blade side walls have faceted surfaces, rather than a continuous smooth, curved surface. The straight wall segments between adjacent ribs can withstand higher compressive forces without buckling. As a result, the wall thickness can be reduced.
