The present invention is directed to a method for isothermal amplification of a plurality of different target nucleic acids, wherein the different target nucleic acids are amplified using universal primers and colonies produced thereby can be distinguished from each other. The present invention provides methods kits and systems for performing multiple displacement amplification reactions. In one method a sample of nucleic acid is provided.
