Method and apparatus for clustering data

A method and apparatus for partitioning a data set for clustering, based on the physical properties of an inhomogeneous ferromagnet. No assumption is made regarding the underlying distribution of the data. A Potts spin is assigned to each data point and an interaction between neighboring points is introduced, whose strength is a decreasing function of the distance between the neighbors. This magnetic system exhibits three phases. At very low temperatures it is completely ordered; i.e. all spins are aligned. At very high temperatures the system does not exhibit any ordering and in an intermediate regime clusters of relatively strongly coupled spins become ordered, whereas different clusters remain uncorrelated. This intermediate phase is identified by a jump in the order parameters. The spin-spin correlation function is used to partition the spins and the corresponding data points into clusters.

Fixing structure of link and pin of travelling crawler belt, and fixing method thereof

In a travelling crawler belt in which a pair of left and right links are connected by pins respectively press-fitted into the corresponding links, a fixing end surface of the pin or the links is continuously and locally pressed and deformed in an axial direction of the pin from the fixing end surface, along an inner or outer peripheral portion of an opening of a pin-press-fit hole. Then, a part of the opening peripheral portion of the end of the pin or the link is enlarged or reduced in diameter, so that the diametrically increased or reduced portion is retained and fixed to a mating retaining space. With this fixing method, it is possible to easily and strongly couple the links and the pin, and to obtain a fixing structure of the links and the pin for a crawler belt capable of sufficiently securing a holding force of the pin in the axial direction. When the pin is fixed at the time of the assembling of the pin, an existing press can be used without requiring any exclusive machine, and it is possible to easily and reliably assemble the links and the pin for the crawler belt.

System and method for adaptive partitioning of circuit components during simulation

A system for adaptive partitioning of circuit components during simulating of a circuit having a hierarchical data structure includes a simulator module having one or more computer programs for 1) selecting a group of leaf circuits from the first branch and the second branch for simulation, where each leaf circuit is represented by a matrix comprising a set of equations, 2) determining a strength of coupling between two or more leaf circuits of the group in accordance with a set of predetermined electrical coupling criteria, 3) if two or more leaf circuits are deemed be strongly coupled, combining the corresponding matrix of each strongly coupled leaf circuit into a combined matrix, and 4) performing computation for the two or more strongly coupled leaf circuits in accordance with the combined matrix. The system adaptively adjusts the group circuit matrix for computing a group of circuits according to the strength of coupling between the circuits. Hence, it achieves higher simulation performance by reducing either the size of the solver matrix when the circuits are loosely connected to each other, or by reducing the number of computational repetitions due to the communication of changes of signal conditions between circuits by combining the individual circuit matrices when such circuits are closely coupled to each other.

Perpendicular magnetic recording medium with an exchange-spring recording structure and a lateral coupling layer for increasing intergranular exchange coupling

A perpendicular magnetic recording system and medium has a multilayered recording layer that includes an exchange-spring structure and a ferromagnetic lateral coupling layer (LCL). The exchange-spring structure is made up of two ferromagnetically exchange-coupled magnetic layers (MAG1 and MAG2), each with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. MAG1 and MAG2 are either in direct contact with one another or have a coupling layer (CL) located between them. The LCL is located in direct contact with MAG2 and mediates intergranular exchange coupling in MAG2. The ferromagnetic alloy in the LCL has significantly greater intergranular exchange coupling than the ferromagnetic alloy in MAG2, which typically will include segregants such as oxides. The LCL is preferably free of oxides or other segregants, which would tend to reduce intergranular exchange coupling in the LCL. Because the LCL grain boundaries overlay the boundaries of the generally segregated and decoupled grains of MAG2, and the LCL and MAG2 grains are strongly coupled perpendicularly, the LCL introduces an effective intergranular exchange coupling in the MAG2.

High-pass two-dimensional ladder network resonator

A high-pass two-dimensional ladder network has been described for high-field MRI and credential applications. The next-to-highest eigenvalue of the network corresponds to a normal mode giving rise to B1 fields with good spatial homogeneity above the resonator plane. Other eigenvalues may also be used for specific imaging applications. In its most basic form, the ladder network is a collection of inductively coupled resonators where each element of the array is represented by at least one conducting strip having a self-inductance L, joined by a capacitor C at one or more points along each resonator. In the strong coupling limit of the inductively coupled high-pass two-dimensional ladder network resonator array, the array produces a high-frequency resonant mode that can be used to generate the traditional quadrature B1 field used in magnetic resonance imaging, and in the limit of weak or zero coupling reduces to a phased array suitable for parallel imaging applications.
