Expandable belt and tread drum

A belt and tread drum having an annular shell comprising a plurality of circumferentially spaced segments, each of which is mounted on a carrier which disposed in circumscribing relationship to a generally cylindrical actuator rotatably connected with a reciprocating piston disposed within a cavity defined between the actuator and a hub fixed to a central core of the drum. Translational movement of the piston between extended and retracted positions in a direction parallel to the rotational axis of the drum is converted into selected rotational movement of the actuator relative to the hub. A plurality of sets of links interposed between the segments and the actuator and hub have their first ends commonly pivotally pinned to a segment. The second end of one link of each set of links is pivotally pinned to the actuator and the second end of the other link of each set of links is pivotally pinned to the hub. Rotation of the actuator relative to the hub controls the arcuate separation of these second ends such that bringing these second ends toward contiguity moves the segments radially outwardly, and conversely, moving these second ends arcuately apart serves to move the segments radially inwardly of the drum. A hand wheel establishes maximum and minimum rotational movement of the actuator and provides a visual indication of the radial positions of the several segments, i.e. the diameter of the drum.

Communication system for dynamically combining power from a plurality of propagation channels in order to improve power levels of transmitted signals without affecting receiver and propagation segments

The present invention relates to a communication system and method that allows a transmitter segment (ground end of uplink segment) to dynamically combine power from plurality of propagation channels (transponders) in order to improve power levels of signals being transmitted, without affecting the receiver segment (user end of downlink segment) and the propagation segment (space segment), and without modifying the configuration of the propagation apparatus (satellite). Specifically, the transmitter segment generates mixtures of input signals by using Wavefront-Multiplexing and transmits the wavefront-multiplexed (WFM) signals through propagation channels to a receiver segment that coherently separates the mixtures of received WFM signals by using adaptive equalization and Wavefront-De-Multiplexing. The WFM signal mixtures allow an operator, or automated system, at the transmitter segment to dynamically allocate equivalent channel (transponder) powers according to continuously changing market demands by dynamically including change of relative input powers into ratios of the WFM signal mixtures being transmitted.

Binary diversity single-carrier transmission method based on self-adaptive cyclic prefix

The invention relates to the field of satellite communication technologies and provides a binary diversity single-carrier transmission method based on a self-adaptive cyclic prefix. The method comprises the following steps that (1) a space segment provides information service forwarded based on processing through two co-orbital satellites, and a satellite receiver at an earth segment can synchronously receive signals of the two satellites to obtain space diversity gain; (2) inter-frame signal interference of a receiving end, which is brought by random perturbation of the satellites, is effectively resisted by utilizing a single-carrier transmission mechanism based on the cyclic prefix; (3) the satellite receiver carries out balancing and subsequent signal processing on the received signals, a specific statistical parameter is taken as an index, and the current length performance of the cyclic prefix is broadcasted to a satellite transmitting end in a manner of 1 bit; and (4) the satellite transmitting end adjusts the length of the cyclic prefix at the appointed step length according to feedback information. According to the method, when the satellite altitude is inaccurately known, lower complexity, low-speed feedback expenditure and higher transmission efficiency are achieved, and the signal diversity gain brought by binary transmission is obtained.

High tension transmission line ice coating waving monitoring method based on [phi]-OTDR

The invention discloses a high tension transmission line ice coating waving monitoring method based on [phi]-OTDR; the method comprises the following steps: using a [phi]-OTDR system to obtain time and space distributions of Rayleigh backscattering signals in a cable; making Fourier transform so as to obtain a Rayleigh signal spectrogram; using a least square method to respectively fitting two straight lines according to end points of fundamental frequency and higher harmonic left and right edges in the spectrogram, thus obtaining an approximation isosceles trapezoid; solving the approximationisosceles trapezoid transmission line space vibration center, and determining a space segment on which ice coating waving may easily happen; stacking components from near DC to the highest frequencyin the spectrogram, continuously reading many frequency spectrums, and splicing a high frequency energy coefficient time-space diagram; extracting a high frequency energy coefficient time domain signal, smoothing and meaning the signal, making Fourier transform so as to obtain a vibration signal period, thus obtaining transmission line waving day and night change rules, and determining the ice coating waving easy happening time period. The method can timely find out and eliminate line operation safety troubles, thus preventing mass economic losses.

Method for segmenting text words in document images using vertical projections of center zones of characters

ActiveUS20160180163A1Fast and accurate word segmentationFast and accurate segmentationCharacter and pattern recognitionVertical projectionAlgorithm
A word segmentation method for segmenting a text line into word segments, which is particularly advantageous for processing italic text but can also be used for regular text. A horizontal center zone of the text line, corresponding to the vertical center parts of the characters, is used to generate a center-zone-only vertical projection profile. The center zone is determined using a horizontal projection profile, by locating the two major peaks of that profile and defining the two major peak positions as the upper and lower boundaries of the center zone. Spacing segments (white gaps) in the vertical projection profile are identified, and classified into two classes, namely character spacing (gap between characters with a word) and word spacing (gap between words). The word spacings are used to segment the text line into word segments.
