323 results about "Monitor mode" patented technology

Monitor mode, or RFMON (Radio Frequency MONitor) mode, allows a computer with a wireless network interface controller (WNIC) to monitor all traffic received on a wireless channel. Unlike promiscuous mode, which is also used for packet sniffing, monitor mode allows packets to be captured without having to associate with an access point or ad hoc network first. Monitor mode only applies to wireless networks, while promiscuous mode can be used on both wired and wireless networks. Monitor mode is one of the eight modes that 802.11 wireless cards can operate in: Master (acting as an access point), Managed (client, also known as station), Ad hoc, Repeater, Mesh, Wi-Fi Direct, TDLS and Monitor mode.

Apparatus and method for use in a data/conference call system for automatically collecting participant information and providing all participants with that information for use in collaboration services

A so-called “OpenChannel™” conference is established by separating particular participants of the conference from those participants that are actually currently active in the conference. This establishes a type of virtual conference, i.e., meeting, that can be monitored by participants, i.e., users, without requiring them to be actively a part of the conference call. These particular participants are in a so-called monitor mode. These participants can readily change their state from the monitor mode to a listen mode or active mode, as desired. One advantage of this invention is that a long-term conference of months or even years duration can be set up, only incurring a cost to participants when they are active participants in the conference call.

Low-power wireless multi-hop networks

A method of communication or transmission of data between a first and a second node in a wireless multi-hop network comprises bringing the first node and the second node in a fully operative mode for communication with each other and subsequently bringing the first node and the second node in a reduced operative mode where no communication with any other node is possible and, before bringing the second node in the fully operative mode, bringing the second node in a listening mode during a token listening period to check for presence of a wake-up token from the first node, and thereafter bringing the second node into the reduced operative mode if no wake-up token is received, and bringing the second node into the fully operative mode for reception of data from the first node if a wake-up token is received. This wake-up scheme is a kind of scheduled rendezvous scheme with collision avoidance, and may be called an induced wake-up scheme. It is advantageous because of its low power consumption (no des only wake up completely when a message is present for them to receive) and because of the low latency in data transfer. The wake-up tokens used enable random access to other nodes, nevertheless having a system which is low-power in operation.

Automatic antenna selection for mesh backhaul network nodes

Methods and devices related to wireless networking. A wireless device has multiple directional antennas and multiple backhaul radio modules which provide point to point wireless links with other wireless devices. Each radio module can use any one of the available directional antennas to link to one other routing device. Antennas are automatically selected for each wireless device by merely setting one device in a “hunt” mode and setting another device in a “listen” mode. Devices in a hunt mode cycle through the available antennas by sequentially transmitting transmit messages to devices in the listen mode using each of the available antennas in turn. Devices in the listen mode also cycle through their available antennas by sequentially “listening” for transmit messages. A listen mode device, receives transmit messages on each of its available antennas, and, after gathering the relevant data, determines which of its antennas is best suited for communicating with the hunt mode device. The listen mode device antenna which is best suited is then used to transmit a response message to the hunt mode device. This listen mode device antenna is thus configured for communicating with the hunt mode device. Similarly, when the hunt mode device receives the response message, it designates its antenna which transmitted the transmit message as being configured for communications with the listen mode device.

Interference Classification with Minimal or Incomplete Information

Interference classification with minimal or incomplete information. Receivers in access points and in other network devices on a wireless digital network may be switched to a spectrum monitor mode in which they provide amplitude-versus-frequency information for a chosen part of the spectrum. This may be performed by performing a FFT or similar transform on the signals from the receiver. Receivers are calibrated with known interference sources in controlled environments to determine peaks, pulse frequency, bandwidth, and other identifying parameters of the interference source in best and worst case conditions. These calibrated values are used for matching interference signatures. Calibration is also performed using partial signatures collected over a short period in the order of microseconds. These partial signals may be used to detect interferers while scanning. Another aspect of the invention is to record the variation of noise floor in the presence of interference sources. Multiple interference sources may be detected. While data collection is performed in one or more APs, classification may be performed in theAP or on other systems associated with the network collecting and processing spectrum information from one or more APs.

System for tracing hardware counters utilizing programmed performance monitor to generate trace interrupt after each branch instruction or at the end of each code basic block

A method and system within a data processing system or information handling system are disclosed for counting various events from a running program (hereafter called a process) by taking a trace by way of using an interruption. According to the present invention, a performance monitor feature within a data processing system is programmed to generate a trace interrupt after each branch instruction, or at the end of each basic block of code from a currently running program or process. By programming monitor mode control registers within the performance monitor feature, one or more counters are programmed to count various events happening on the data processing system thereby creating tracing information. If the current process is a process to be traced, the tracing information is stored in a trace buffer for post-processing analysis, the counters are reset to zero returning back to the process from the interrupt.

Media access control utilizing synchronization signaling

A novel media access control (MAC) mechanism utilizing synchronization signaling that enables nodes from different networks having different technologies and protocols to coexistence using the same shared media. The present invention is suitable for use with a wide range of different types of network and technologies and is particularly useful in providing coexistence capabilities to powerline based data communication systems. Specific time slots are assigned for the transmission of a frame occupation signal to indicate to all nodes that the channel is occupied. A synchronization signal is randomly transmitted during a preassigned time slot within the frame to provide accurate timing for the frame occupation signal. During times that a node does not transmit the synchronization signal, it listens to the channel. A timing signal is derived from the synchronization signals received from other nodes during this quiet period wherein the node is in a listening mode. The node then adjusts its internal clock in accordance with the derived timing signal.
