The vehicle establishes a temporary piconet network with the user's home piconet. Vehicle operational statistics are tracked and maintained in a centralized vehicle computer database. This database can be manipulated to store the data desired by the vehicle owner. Via a wireless piconet connection, this database can transmitted to another piconet device such as the owner's computer. This computer system can be part of a wireless piconet, such as Bluetooth, This provides the computer with the ability to communicate with external wireless devices such as a cell phone, PDA, computer, or a cordless telephone. This invention allows for the configuration, or selection of desired vehicle data to be tracked. This configuration can take place on the owner's home computer (or laptop) and consequently transmitted to the vehicle computer using a wireless piconet protocol, e.g., the Bluetooth protocol. Additionally, this configuration can be manipulated by a direct interface to the vehicle provided by the manufacturer. Exemplary vehicle statistics which may be tracked include, but are not limited to, miles per gallon, average miles per hour, maximum MPH, miles driven per trip, driving statistics based on time of day and / or on identified driver, rotations of the engine per minute (RPM), temperature of engine, fuel gauge level, oil pressure, tires, brakes, engine coolant, wiper fluid, global positioning satellite (GPS) system, and / or even compressed voice from inside car cockpit during operation of vehicle.

In accordance with one embodiment, a parabolic trough system is disclosed to capture solar heat. It has low mass, high rigidity and precise robust rotational control. The trough does not require massive supports, since it use a “sandwich structure” where the core is lightweight urethane foam and the skin is made of aluminum sheet. The inside skin also functions as the parabolic reflector. The shape minimizes wind loads by centering the receiver in the parabola and by making the center of focus the center of rotation.The system can be rapidly built in the field since there are few parts. Assembly does not require heavy equipment. Support posts are used on both sides of the trough to minimize the anchoring requirements in wind loads.The trough bodies are rotated in a rotational control mechanism that uses circumscribing rings to support a continuous row of troughs that can sustain 120 mile per hour winds. Optical performance is improved with the drive ring design. The structure is continuous and torque is uniformly applied to each ring through two spools supported on drive tubes. A cable is wrapped around each spool as well as around the top part of the ring. As the spools rotate, they pull the cable and rotate the rings and troughs with precision and strength. The spools and cables also restrain the system under high wind loads.

The vehicle information system 28 functions in combination with an electronic control module 66 of the machine 10 to trigger an automatic speed reduction should the actual ton-miles-per-hour rating exceed a predetermined limit. The speed reduction may be affected by at least one of reducing a throttle setting, changing a transmission gear and automatic application of the machine brakes.

High-altitude launching of rockets lifted by helium devices and platforms with rotatable wings

A system is disclosed for lifting a rocket into the upper atmosphere and establishing forward flight at several hundred miles per hour, before the rocket engines are ignited and the rocket is released from the lifting system.
