Control of rhinosinusitis-related, and other microorganisms in the sino-nasal tract

InactiveUS20050107853A1Simple treatmentSimple and safe and broad-spectrum treatmentElectrotherapyDiagnosticsBroad spectrumRed light
Disclosed are methods and apparatus for safe, simple and effective broad-spectrum treatments of chronic rhinosinusitis and other common and less common infections of the sino-nasal tract which may implicate not only a wide range of bacterial species but also fungi and viruses. Electromagnetic radiative energy including visible, and optionally, thermal RF, microwave or other longer wavelengths, is applied to target internal surfaces of the sino-nasal tract to destroy or incapacitate superficial microorganisms without the use of antibiotics. The treatment can be controlled to permit regrowth of healthy microflora. A handheld energy applicator has a light output head receivable into, or engageable with, the treatment subject's nostril which may be provided with extensions to reach the sinuses. Useful embodiments of the invention include pretreatment of target sino-nasal surfaces with a photosensitizing agent such as an oxidizing agent or a complementary stain. For example methylene blue can be used with orange or red light. The combination treatment of photosensitizer and application of visual wavelength energy provides a flexible treatment regimen which enables low concentrations of stains to be employed, minimizing aesthetic problems.

Glaucoma implant with multiple openings

Surgical methods and related medical devices for treating glaucoma are disclosed. The method comprises trabecular bypass surgery, which involve bypassing diseased trabecular meshwork with the use of a seton implant. The seton implant is used to prevent a healing process known as filling in, which has a tendency to close surgically created openings in the trabecular meshwork. The surgical method and novel implant are addressed to the trabecular meshwork, which is a major site of resistance to outflow in glaucoma. In addition to bypassing the diseased trabecular meshwork at the level of the trabecular meshwork, existing outflow pathways are also used or restored. The seton implant is positioned through the trabecular meshwork so that an inlet end of the seton implant is exposed to the anterior chamber of the eye and an outlet end is positioned into fluid collection channels at about an exterior surface of the trabecular meshwork or up to the level of aqueous veins.

Systems and methods of enhancing electrical activation of nervous tissue

Methods and systems for improving nerve stimulation are disclosed and are termed enhanced transcutaneous electrical stimulation (eTENS). One embodiment can be used for enhancing the excitation properties of neural tissue. In one embodiment, systems and methods are provided to enable the selective modulation of specific (targeted) neural substrate, while minimizing the activation of adjacent (non-targeted) nervous tissue, or differentially providing different modulation signals to tissue targeted by different implants. In one embodiment, the system consists of an implant that is used to modify the extracellular potential (i.e. activating function) generated by an independent electrical stimulus generator. Certain aspects of this technology can be applied to any part of the central and peripheral nervous systems. Particular embodiments of this technology provide for therapy related to urological disorders.

Time stamping system for electronic documents and program medium for the same

Object: To provide a time stamping system for electronic documents making it possible to easily provide a time stamp certifying date and time of a document prepared with general purpose document preparation software and also to easily and accurately verify the time data and a program medium for the same. Solution: The electronic document preparing organization 20 at a client site has a first document preparation terminal device 30 and a second document preparation terminal device 40. When the document preparation terminal device 30 transmits the prepared document and a time stamp request message 31 to the time stamp issuing server 12, and time stamp issuing server 12 assigns electronic signatures with the signature generation secret keys Ks1, Ks2 and returns the data to the document preparation terminal device 30. The document preparation terminal device 40 a document file with the time stamp received from the terminal device 30 assigned therein and a time stamp verification request message 41 to the time stamp verification server 13. The time stamp verification server 13 verifies the time stamp with the signature verification secret key Kv2, and returns a result of the verification. The terminal device 30 and the terminal device 40 can verify the signature and the result of verification respectively with the signature verification public key Kv1.

Phosphor, its manufacturing method and plasma display panel

An object of the present invention is to provide a phosphor capable of improving the light emitting efficiency of a plasma display panel and restraining the deterioration of luminance and a change in chromaticity with the passage of time, and also provide a manufacturing method of this phosphor and the plasma display panel using this phosphor. To achieve this object, the surfaces of phosphor particles for a plasma display panel are covered with a metallic oxide generated by the hydrolysis of a metallic alkoxide. A manufacturing method of the phosphor particles for the plasma display panel is characterized in that the metallic alkoxide is attached to the phosphor particle surfaces and is burned. In this manufacturing method, the phosphor particle surfaces are covered with a close film of the metallic oxide. The plasma display panel uses the phosphor particles having surfaces covered with the metallic oxide.

Particle multibeam lithography

In a particle multibeam lithography apparatus an illumination system (242) having a particle source (203) produces an illuminating beam (205) of electrically charged particles, and a multibeam optical system (208) positioned after the illumination system (242) and comprising at least one aperture plate having an array of a plurality of apertures to form a plurality of sub-beams focuses the sub-beams onto the surface of a substrate (220), wherein for each sub-beam (207) a deflection unit (210) is positioned within the multibeam optical system and adapted to correct individual imaging aberrations of the respective sub-beam with respect to the desired target position and / or position the sub-beam during a writing process an the substrate surface. Preferably, for each sub-beam the respective aperture of the first aperture plate defines the size and shape of the sub-beam cross-section and the multibeam optical system produces a demagnified image of the aperture on the substrate surface, with a demagnification of at least 20:1.

Dielectric plasma chamber apparatus and method with exterior electrodes

A dielectric barrier discharge plasma generator includes a dielectric chamber. The chamber contains or incorporates a solid surface that is to be treated with non-thermal plasma. The dielectric chamber can be substantially sealed and confine an atmosphere therein. An atmosphere control system is provided for controlling the atmosphere within the chamber. At least one or two electrodes are located outside of the dielectric chamber. When actuated by an appropriate source of plasma generating electrical power the electrodes cause the generation of a solid surface modifying non-thermal plasma in a plasma zone within the dielectric chamber. A transport system is provided for moving the electrode and the dielectric chamber relative to one another. A plasma zone is confined within the dielectric chamber adjacent to the electrodes, and remains substantially stationary relative to the electrodes. The dielectric chamber carries the solid surface through the plasma zone. The solid surface remains substantially stationary relative to the dielectric chamber.
