Method and apparatus for sequencing polymers through tunneling conductance variation detection

Systems and methods of identifying molecules of polymers such as, for example, a nucleic acid, are described. The method involves centering a bias voltage across a pair of nanoelectrodes separated by a channel that corresponds to one of any of the energy differences between any two internal energy levels of a molecule of interest, and modulating the bias voltage with a modulation waveform while the molecule of interest is in the channel. An electrical signal characteristic of the molecule of interest is derived from the tunneling current between the nanoelectrodes, and the characteristic electrical signal is compared with known values of the signal for chemically-known molecules in order to identify the molecule of interest. Multiple pairs of nano-electrodes may be employed to identify more reliably a single molecule or multiple molecules.

Trapping glucose probe in pores of polymer

A polymer matrix defining pores is formed by polymerizing polymer precursors in a precursor solution. The precursor solution comprises a bicontinuous microemulsion of a first fluid in a first continuous phase and a second fluid in a second continuous phase. The first fluid comprises the polymer precursors. The second fluid comprises the glucose probe. Some internal pores are connected to surface pores in the matrix through openings sized to allow passage of glucose molecules but restrict passage of the glucose probe. As the glucose probe is dispersed in the precursor solution prior to polymerization, some glucose probe molecules are trapped in the internal pores after polymerization. The formed polymer may be used in an ophthalmic device such as contact lens, for detecting the presence of glucose in an ocular fluid.

Firearm single-shot bolt catch assembly and method of operation

A firearm single-shot bolt catch assembly and method of operation. The automatic firearm single-shot bolt catch assembly uses a tensioned spring that operates with a bolt catch. The tension from the spring works to pivotally articulate a plate in the bolt catch to a catch position, which restricts the recoiling bolt carrier group in linear path of the firearm. The tension from the spring presses the plate upwardly into the linear path to restrict the passage of, and hold, the bolt carrier group towards the rearward end of the firearm. This restriction of movement inhibits automated recoiling responses from the bolt carrier group, consequently creating a single-shot mode by disabling automated firing sequence of the firearm. Applying force to a lever that forms in the bolt catch overcomes the spring bias to displace the plate out of the linear path followed by the bolt carrier.
