In one embodiment of the present invention, a driving method of a liquid crystal display device is disclosed. According to one embodiment of the present invention a driving method of an active matrix display device is disclosed including: a plurality of source lines; a plurality of gate lines that intersect the source lines; and a plurality of pixel formation sections being disposed in a matrix manner at the respective intersections of the source lines and the gate lines, each of the pixel formation sections receiving as a pixel value a voltage applied to the source line that passes through the corresponding intersection when the gate line that passes through the corresponding intersection is selected, wherein non-image signals are applied to the source lines in each horizontal scanning period, and the gate lines are selected in an effective scanning period, and thereafter the gate lines are selected, in sync with a timing of application of the non-image signals to the source lines, before the subsequent effective scanning period comes after a point in time when the gate lines have been brought into non-selected state.

A dual mode mobile terminal has a dual mode in which said mobile terminal can be connected to any of two different wireless communications systems (hereinafter referred to as systems 1 and 2). The mobile terminal can be connected to optimum wireless communications system by considering conditions at which the mobile terminal is (moving speed, communication data rate) even if it is in the state of communicating using any of systems 1 and 2. The mobile terminal (3) which can be connected to any of the system 1 having a wide service area and medium and low communication data rate and the system 2 having a local service area and high communication data rate determines whether or not it is in the service area of the systems 1 and 2. Based upon the moving speed and / or the communication data rate of the current mobile terminal (3), the mobile terminal (3) is connected to the system 1 or 2 if the moving speed is higher or lower than a predetermined threshold, respectively, and is connected to the system 2 or 1 if the communication data rate is higher or lower than a predetermined threshold, respectively, irrespective of whether the mobile terminal is in the communicating state or not. Prior to connection, selection of the wireless system is informed to the user and the connection may be made in accordance with an instruction from the user.

A multi-reflection mass spectrometer is provided comprising two ion-optical mirrors, each mirror elongated generally along a drift direction (Y), each mirror opposing the other in an X direction, the X direction being orthogonal to Y, characterized in that the mirrors are not a constant distance from each other in the X direction along at least a portion of their lengths in the drift direction. In use, ions are reflected from one opposing mirror to the other a plurality of times while drifting along the drift direction so as to follow a generally zigzag path within the mass spectrometer. The motion of ions along the drift direction is opposed by an electric field resulting from the non-constant distance of the mirrors from each other along at least a portion of their lengths in the drift direction that causes the ions to reverse their direction.
