Methods for acquiring and processing seismic data from quasi-simultaneously activated translating energy sources

A method for obtaining seismic data is disclosed. A constellation of seismic energy sources is translated along a survey path. The seismic energy sources include a reference energy source and a satellite energy source. The reference energy source is activated and the satellite energy source is activated at a time delay relative to the activation of the reference energy source. This is repeated at each of the spaced apart activation locations along the survey path to generate a series of superposed wavefields. The time delay is varied between each of the spaced apart activation locations. Seismic data processing comprises sorting the traces into a common-geometry domain and replicating the traces into multiple datasets associated with each particular energy source. Each trace is time adjusted in each replicated dataset in the common-geometry domain using the time delays associated with each particular source. This result in signals generated from that particular energy source being generally coherent while rendering signals from the other energy source is generally incoherent. The coherent and incoherent signals are then filtered to attenuate incoherent signals.

Method and Apparatus For Achieving Higher Thermal Efficiency In A Steam Engine or Steam Expander

A high order of thermal efficiency is achieved in a steam engine or expander having a piston clearance that approximates zero together with a negligible amount of compression, such that pressure in the clearance volume approximates ambient pressure, i.e. atmospheric or condenser pressure as the case may be at the end of the piston return stroke when the clearance is essentially zero. These two provisions working together simultaneously provide a method and apparatus which constitute a new engine apparatus and Rankine operating cycle that can be referred to as “zero clearance with zero compression”. The invention also provides an improved steam admission valve assembly that can be operated either automatically responsive to piston movement or by means of a cam shaft and cam or electrically by means of a solenoid that provides an intermittent magnetic field for operating one or more valves. A biphasic exhaust system is described in which a piston operated valve opens to exhaust steam in a primary phase at or near maximum displacement, and in a secondary phase an auxiliary, normally open exhaust valve facing the top of the piston permits virtually all residual steam to be exhausted through the approximate end of the piston return stroke after which it is closed by the piston, by a lifter on the piston or by the cam and finally held closed during the power stroke by a fresh charge of steam injected through the steam admission valve into the clearance volume as it approaches zero.

Multimodality Mineralogy Segmentation System and Method

A multimodality imaging system and method for mineralogy segmentation is disclosed. Image datasets of the sample are generated for one or more modalities, including x-ray and focused ion beam scanning electron microscope (FIB-SEM) modalities. Mineral maps are then created using Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) from at least part of the sample covered by the image datasets. The EDX mineral maps are applied as a mask to the image datasets to identify and label regions of minerals within the sample. Feature vectors are then extracted from the labeled regions via feature generators such as Gabor filters. Finally, machine learning training and classification algorithms such as Random Forest are applied to the extracted feature vectors to construct a segmented image representation of the sample that classifies the minerals within the sample.
