Wearable personal cooling and hydration system

A heat transfer fluid pathway is provided driven by a pump which feeds the heat transfer fluid through a vest and cap or other heat transfer garment, where the heat transfer fluid draws heat away from the body of the wearer. A drinkable heat sink material is located within a removable cartridge located within a heat exchange pouch. The heat transfer fluid passes from the heat transfer garment to the heat exchange pouch where heat drawn from the wearer is transferred to the heat sink material within the cartridge. A temperature control valve is provided along with a bypass line so that an adjustable amount of the heat transfer fluid is routed to the heat exchange pouch for temperature control. A supply of elevated pressure air is optionally provided to maintain optimal contact for efficient heat transfer within the heat exchange garment and the heat exchange pouch.

Shale oil and gas fracturing fluids containing additives of low environmental impact

The present invention relates to improved chemical additives for use in hydraulic fracturing fluids for the recovery of oil or natural gas entrained in deep-layer shale formations. Many chemical agents currently in use in such water / sand (or other proppants) mixtures could pose human and animal health risks if these chemicals migrate from the shale beds into the environment contaminating the water table, rivers, streams and lakes. The fracturing fluid chemical additives of this invention are designed to be retained or anchored in or near the deep shale layers and are prevented, or greatly delayed from upward migration. Specifically, many chemical additives required for proper fracturing fluid performance can be chemically bonded to inert particulate materials before incorporation into said fluids. The fracturing fluid chemical additives are able to perform their function in the shale fracturing process, and then become nearly permanently trapped in the shale layers protecting the environment above.

Methods for clone-multiplication of paphiopedilums

PCT No. PCT / JP96 / 02998 Sec. 371 Date Jun. 10, 1997 Sec. 102(e) Date Jun. 10, 1997 PCT Filed Oct. 16, 1996 PCT Pub. No. WO97 / 14295 PCT Pub. Date Apr. 24, 1997The present invention provides a method for clone-multiplication of a Paphiopedilum wherein a scape terminal bud or an axillary shoot, whose surface has been sterilized, or an aseptic shoot obtained by an aseptic cultivation, of a Paphiopedilum stock, are cut into cross-sectional pieces which are then cultivated in a medium containing a plant hormone. By cutting an aseptic shoot containing a number of axillary buds into cross-sectional pieces and cultivating, a multishoot formation is feasible. Also by employing a liquid medium containing a solid support such as a rockwool or a paper filter in the culture, the plant death due to browning of tissues can effectively be prevented. In addition, by optimizing the method for sterilizing the buds before blooming, the medium composition and the culture condition, a large scale production of Paphiopedilums by means of a clone multiplication technology becomes feasible.

Method of Gallium Nitride growth over metallic substrate using Vapor Phase Epitaxy

The current invention introduces a method of crystal film's growth of Gallium Nitride and related alloys over a novel class of the substrates using Vapor Phase Epitaxy technique. This said novel class of the substrates comprises single crystal lattice matched, partially matched or mismatched metallic substrates. The use of such substrates provides exceptional thermal conductivity and application flexibility, since they can be easily removed or patterned by chemical etching for the purposes of additional contact formation, electromagnetic radiation extraction, packaging or other purposes suggested or discovered by the skilled artisan. In particular, if patterned, the remaining portions of the said substrates can be utilized as contacts to the semiconductor layers grown on them. In addition, the said metallic substrates are significantly more cost effective than most of the conventional substrates. The use of Vapor Phase Epitaxy allows growing the epitaxial layers with different and / or variable alloy composition, as well as heterostructures and superlattices.

Shale oil and gas fracturing method with low environmental impact

A method is provided for lowering the migration of a hydraulic fluid additive within a hydrocarbon-bearing formation penetrated by a well when producing hydraulic fracturing. Many chemical agents currently in use with water / sand (or other proppants) mixtures could pose human and animal health risks if these chemicals migrate from the shale beds into the environment contaminating the water table, rivers, streams and lakes. The fracturing fluid chemical additives employed are designed to be retained or anchored in or near the deep shale layers and are prevented, or greatly delayed from upward migration. Specifically, chemical additives required for proper fracturing fluid performance are covalently chemically bonded to inert particulate materials (e.g. silica having a particle size less than 2000 microns). The fracturing fluid chemical additives are thereby able to perform their function in the shale fracturing process, and thereafter become nearly permanently trapped in the shale layers protecting the environment above.
