The present invention is directed towards the acceleration of delivery of a computing environment to a remote user of a client at a remote location. The computing environment may include an application and a data file used or processed by the application. The application and data file may be stored or provided via a server remote to the client. The user can request a computing environment from the server that provides for execution of the application by the user via the remote computer. For example, the server may stream the application to the remote client. The client and server may communicate via an appliance that accelerates communications between the client and server. For example, the appliance may accelerate the streaming of the application to the remote user. In some cases, the application or remote user may also request a data file from the server, and the appliance accelerates the delivery of the data file to the remote user. As such, users at remote locations obtain accelerated access via any network connected device to applications and data files located remotely to the user.

A system and device for harvesting various frequencies and polarizations of ambient radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic (EM) energy for making a passive sensor (tag) into an autonomous passive sensor (tag) adapted to collect and store data with time-stamping and some primitive computation when necessary even when an interrogating radio frequency identification (RFID) reader is not present (not transmitting). A specific source of ambient RF EM energy may include wireless fidelity (WiFi) and/or cellular telephone base stations. The system and device may also allow for the recharging of energy storage units in active and battery assisted passive (BAP) devices. The invention relates to a method and to a device for the authorization in data transmission systems employing a transaction authorization number (TAN) or a comparable password. According to a first step, the user sends a qualifying identification of the data input apparatus together with a request for the generation or for the selection of a transaction authorization number TAN or of comparable password from a data file from the data input apparatus to an authorization computer. In a second step the authorization computer generates the transaction authorization number TAN or the comparable password or selects them form a data file. According to a third step, the authorization computer sends the transaction authorization number TAN or the comparable password over a second transmission path different from the first transmission path to a monitor, for example a pager. According to a fourth step, the user reads this transaction authorization number TAN or the comparable password from the receiver and enters the transaction authorization number TAN or the comparable password into the data input apparatus. According to a fifth step, this transaction authorization number TAN or the comparable password is transmitted to the authorization computer. According to a sixth step, the authorization computer verifies the validity of the transaction authorization number TAN or of the comparable password in order to establish or switch free, according to a seventh step, a connection between the data input apparatus and the receiver unit.

The invention comprises music and information delivery systems and methods. One system comprises a portable communication device configured to receive a piece of music from an audio source and transmit the piece of music via a first communication medium to a host computer. The host computer is configured to receive the piece of music from the portable communication device and search a storage medium to identify and access the piece of music from the storage medium. The host computer is configured to transmit the piece of music via a second communication medium to one or more reception units that are configured to receive the piece of music from the host computer via the second communication medium.

Furthermore, an optical fiber ribbon (32) according to another embodiment of the present invention is an optical fiber (32) formed by arranging a plurality of the colored optical fiber (22) in the form of a plane and coating them all together with a ribbon resin and the ratio of thermal expansion coefficient between the coating layer after the colored layer of the colored optical fiber (22) is applied and the coating layer of the optical fiber before the colored layer is applied is 0.90 or more.

An improved E-field generator including a slow-wave transmission line structure is provided herein. In some cases, the improved E-field generator may include an inductively-loaded slow-wave transmission line structure driven by a power source at one end of the structure and terminated by a load at the other end of the structure. In other cases, the improved E-field generator may include a capacitively-loaded slow-wave transmission line structure. In either case, the improved E-field generator provides a frequency-independent, significantly increased electric field at a distance spaced from the generator without altering the dimensions of the generator and/or the input power supplied to the generator. The increase in generated field intensity is achieved by decreasing the phase velocity of the electromagnetic wave propagating along the parallel elements of the generator.

A method for deploying a cellular wireless communication network is provided. The method consists of: providing one or more micro base stations; autonomously deploying the micro base stations using a network access point linked to a cellular wireless communication network; and enabling configuration of the micro base stations to execute network operation commands from a network controller associated with the wireless communication network. Another aspect consists of enabling cooperation and network connectivity between micro base stations and other base stations, including micro base stations and large network base stations. Network connectivity to one or more cellular communication terminals associated with individuals or businesses subscribing to the cellular wireless communication network is enabled. A wireless network is also provided which is configurable to link a cellular wireless network through a high data transmission connection so as to define at least one access point between the micro base station and the wireless network. The network includes a wireless interface and receives operation commands from a network controller for configuration of micro base stations, to support the linking of cellular wireless terminals to the wireless network via the wireless interface by operation of the micro base station, as an intermediary. Techniques for location-assisted wireless communication use real-time location(s) of wireless transceiver(s) together with stored location-indexed channel information to improve communication over a wireless channel between the transceiver(s). The stored channel information includes channel characteristics (e.g., average power, angle-of-arrival, and time delay of multipath components) that are substantially constant in time but vary gradually as a function of location. Current transceiver location(s) are obtained and used to retrieve stored channel characteristics corresponding to the location(s). The channel information may be used at either or both transceiver(s) to improve reception and/or transmission of signals propagating over the wireless channel. For example, reception may be improved by using path angle information to perform spatially structured reception, or using path delay information to perform temporally structured reception, e.g., to assign fingers to multipath components in a RAKE receiver and/or to track time delays of multipath components.

Certain example embodiments relate to a coated article including at least one infrared (IR) reflecting layer of a material such as silver or the like in a low-E coating, and methods of making the same. In certain cases, at least one layer of the coating is of or includes nickel and/or titanium (e.g., NixTiyOz).
